Level Scaling - Overdone?
#31934 - 08/10/07 11:00 AM |
I'm sure there's a good reason for the enemies scaling to the level of players, but I think it's overdone a little bit. It's discouraging to know that some dungeons won't feel any different at level 100 than they would at level 50. When I play games like these, the fact that I'm getting stronger is what makes me keep going. Strength is a relative thing, however, and if the enemies are getting stronger with me, it seems to defeat the purpose. What're the chances of toning down the scaling a little bit? I think a tighter level scaling window would be nice, and maybe apply a different one to each level of the dungeon. For example: Algernon will scale from level 3 to 20 on all levels. What if it were something like: Algernon Level 1: 3 -7 Algernon Level 2: 5 -10 Algernon Level 3: 7 -13 Algernon Level 4: 9 -16 Algernon Level 5: 11-19 Algernon Level 6: 13-20 Algernon Level 7: 15-20 This way each level down gets harder, the overall leveling scaling pattern for the dungeon is unchanged, and players will feel as though they're getting stronger, because the enemies won't scale so incredibly far. What do you guys think of something like that? Veto |

Yea I agree to an extent, theres no difference it seems between level one or level 7 of a dungeon,I would be happier if it get tougher the further in you progress, as it stands now, I am level 24 and starting widows lair, I really am not trying to rush through, its just because of scaling I may aswell progress through rather than stay at an area and follow the level recommendations, after all I am not struggling at all at the moment but according to the game I should be quite a few dungeons behind where I am. -------------------- I am Fump C:\DOS C:\DOS\RUN RUN DOS RUN |

Agreed with both of you. I find that from the first level to the last is all the same, with different looking mobs. The only difference is the champs/heroes/bosses that give the odd hard spot. And I just finished VV at level 23 and apparently, I should probably be starting it if the level scaling was correct. I could probably hit HDoL without much of a hassle. Since everything since Dew Valley has been peanuts, I don't see how Widow's Lair is going to be any different. Maybe once I do get into HDoL, it'll become a challenge and make it really feel like I'm working to get through there instead of just blindly slaughtering everything that's around. -------------------- Folding@Home - Save some lives. I totally agree. From level 30 (when you have all skills basicly) nothing more will happen. Getting from level 40 -> 50 is exactly the same as getting from 80 -> 90. Heck, most ppl even do it in the same dungeon! Earlier we got more exp for higher level mobs. That doesnt happen now. I say, reintroduce that, and get rid of powerleveling some other way (the reason why the no exp higher level mobs was introduced). -------------------- Jinxed - Lvl 100 -------------------- |

Seriously. If I'm going to be stuck in HDoL or Widow's for my last, I don't know, 75 levels, I'm going to be slightly pissed I think. -------------------- Folding@Home - Save some lives. Well, to be honest, this is a great idea, as long as the player can control the level of whatever he's doing. I assume there is loot scaling with level scaling, so yes, a lvl 20 could theoretically scale it to lvl 100, and then spam 50 potions to kill one monster, and take the "uber l00t" to find that he's lost money doing that. |

I agree with the op, however the levels are kind of just dungeons chained together with no cogitable link. I dont think its gonna feel like your making progress as much as you think it will. |
