Goya's Tips: 1-10
#31806 - 08/08/07 11:41 PM

Hello! I'm still fairly new to the game, but i've learned so much and am more than willing to share my experiences with everyone. Maybe you can learn a thing or two like me, maybe you already know this stuff, or maybe none of it applies to you. Take a look at my first 10 tips.

Goya's Quicktips 1-10

1. Move Your Camera!

Don't be afraid to move your camera around often. Monsters might be shooting you from far away and you might not notice until your health has plummeted! Left, Right, Up, Down: be agile with your camera! Also, if you are surrounded by many tall monsters at once and have a hard time targeting or seeing, zoom out using your mouse wheel or Pg Up/ Pg Down

2. Hey Can I have that?

So: you're in a group with a mage and a fighter, and you've pummeled some bad guys, and looted your share. You press the Z button to find that the fighter got a sweet mage helm that he probably won't pick up or wear. Try asking him nicely if he could pick it up and drop it for you. Chances are you'll be getting a brand new mage helm! Don't try this too often or your friends/group might get annoyed!

3. Silly Marketing Ploys!

Getting a lot of King Coins and don't plan on getting a membership? Don't let them go to waste! You can always
save them for a higher level (maybe you'll rethink and pay the fee). If not, you can exchange them at the member
token masters for member items which you can sell to any merchant for Gold Coins. This is a quick boost to get
enough to pay for skills!

4. Money, Money, Money!
Inventory space is precious, and as you level you'll be more efficient in using your space wisely. Looting and
not finding much to wear? Going to sell it all? Well try this: Armor takes up 8 spaces but generally is worth more than weapons. Remember, purples are worth more than yellows which are worth more than blues which..etc. Get the most gold for your space!

5. Uhh.. +5?

Did you know that dungeons with level ranges (for example Dew Valley is levels 1-5, algernon 3-20) keep letting you gain exp for 5 levels past the high range? That means you can keep leveling in Algernon until level 25 if you wish, Vergrims until 35 and so forth.

6. Whucha Talkin Bout' Willis?

Here's a quick list of some acronyms used in DR.
WP = WayPoint
LFG = Looking For Group
HDOL = Horrific Dungeon of Legend
AOE = Area of Effect
DPS = Damage Per Second
HP = Hit Points/Health
AR = Attack Rating
DR = Dungeon Runners / Defense Rating
pots = Health or Mana potions
KC = King Coins
GB = Gaseous Blast
2h = 2 Handed Weapon
PvP = Player Vs. Player
PvE = Player Vs. Environment
mobs = Monsters, enemies, etc.
toon = Your character!
char = Short for Character

7. Level 5 Please!

Many obelisks are portals to areas where you can either catch the next dungeon, or go back to level 5 of a previous dungeon. Here's an Obelisk-BackToLevel5 setup list.

  • Algor Terror Dome Base Camp - Algernon Level 5
  • Vexation Station - Algor's Terror Dome Level 5
  • The Widower's Nest Base Camp - Vergrim's Vexation Level 5
  • Frump's Interdungeonal Resort - The Widower's Nest Level 5
  • The Mutanous Malaise Mezzanine - Frump's Misfortune Level 5

    8. Soulbound.. NOOO!!!
    You go romping on another monster-bashing adventure, to come home with a few items that you don't really want that you wish you could trade or give to a buddy. QUICK! TAKE IT OFF! When "Soulbound in xx minutes" items are in the bank or inventory, the timer doesn't go down. They can stay that way forever. The timer goes down once you're wearing the item. Soulbound is for purple yellow and rainbow items only.

    9. Don't go too far!

    Trying to get monsters to chase you? Trying to build up a huge convoy to kill? Be careful of how far you go.
    Monsters won't chase you forever. Once they get out of their range of "where they started out to where they can
    attack" they will double-time it back to their stomping grounds and forget about you. With experience comes a
    good feeling of how far monsters can go.

    10. AOE mage? Try this tip:

    This is a little secret i've come across in my trial-and-errors of Dungeon Runners. This needs decent +movement
    percentages on your armor. First, round up a bunch of monsters. As many monsters as you can at one time without
    them running back to their area. Then, just start running around in circles. And don't stop. They will form a
    very tight group around you and barely hit you. This is the perfect time to hit them with Gaseous Blast, Ring of Fire, Shadow Lightning, basically anything you have to throw at em. If they don't die in the first round of chaos, do it again. Circle and circle and circle and they will keep forming in a tight group, even the range-attack monsters. This works especially well in tight places where there's high concentration of monsters, like Demonic Crypts.

    Stay tuned for tips 10-20 once I experience them! Happy running and may all your drops be bountiful!

    This is not new for us "old-timers" . But nice guide though, nice work. I have just one comment

    About the soulbound: It will not count down if its in your inventory, ONLY when you wear it (use it). So you do not HAVE to put it in the bank. I have not tested this myself, but has heard this for several ppl.

    Keep up the good work.

    Quite cool guide, short per subject. Clear and easy to understand, yes quite nice! One fault I noticed:

    Quote:

    Purple.. Yellow.. and rainbow, Yellow items arent always soul-bound, they are only when you got them from exchanging Kings Coins

    Yellow Items can be soul-bounded

    The yellows you get from the kings coins traders will be soulbounded when you wear them (or is it just a bug)

    But i have soulbounded yellow items ATM
    So no the guide is good

    BTW: great tips
