Level Limits on Grouping?
#31142 - 08/01/07 12:45 AM

Is there a limit to how far apart you and someone else are to group? If so, what is the level difference? Who should start the group, lower or higher, or does it make a difference in your leveling?

1) A level 100 can group with a level 1

2) In order for all members of the group to gain experience, all members need to be within five levels of the group leader

3) All members of the group gain the experience that is appropriate for their level. You don't get any extra experience for fighting monsters above your level.

4) Grouping raises the difficulty of the monsters you fight. As such, if the group leader is significantly higher in level than you, he/she may feel that you're not contributing.

5) IMO, grouping is a social event. I do it because I'm in the mood to be social (other than in /w chat) whether I'm gaining experience or not.

So, in the case of NOT being 5 levels apart (as in more), does everyone NOT get XP, or only the lower level players?

I should modify this statement a little. You will get experience if your level is less than the group leader's level. It doesn't matter how many levels lower you are, you will get experience, but you won't get EXTRA experience. If you're higher in level than the group leader, you will only get experience if you're within five levels of the leader. That's because the monsters generated will be the same level as the leader. If you're more than five levels above the leader, then you're too high for the monsters to get experience from them.

Caveat, all of this applies to level-appropriate dungeons. Monsters are capped at certain levels for most dungeons. For example, Algernon is capped at 20. If your group leader is level 25 and you're all fighting in Algernon, then the monsters will only be level 20. As such, you would have to be <= level 25 to get experience.
