Member only ideas (and reduce nonmember hell)
#28014 - 07/08/07 12:39 PM

1. Only members can use world and zone chat. The game is polluted by stupidity, rudeness, offensiveness, and juvenile antics, and I'd bet money that 90% of the lower quality chat abusers are not members.

2. Only members can name their characters (or if you become a member you can rename) - all nonmembers get randomly generated names. Again, this would cut down on eye pollution and stupidity for those actually paying. This game is lighthearted and not really an MMORPG, so I'm not AS concerned with character names - don't care at all really - but the blatantly offensive, inappropriate, racist, sexist, etc types of names have no business being anywhere. Players that uses those kinds of names should be removed from the planet - but I'd settle for removed from the game. :P

I'd imagine that NC wants to encourage people to pay the trivial fee. The two things would both provide a better environment for paying players and give people more reason to pay!

The thing that would actually help most of all is to have a reporting system in game. As it stands any offensive behaviour you see can only be reported on the NCSoft Support Website. Putting in place a system similar to that in the City of Heroes/Villains game would make the environment much better as people who are rude and offensive would then be reported where as now lots of incidents seem to go unreported.

The number of players you can have on your ignore list has been increased to 5,000.

5000 is a good number of morons to squelch
-and its good info to have

5000 is a big number though..when CLEARING the list
-so the question is..is there a mass clear com for ignore/friend ?
-if NOT..one would be handy..if/when the list becomes full

So my non-member alt toon is just SOL right? I have a capped member toon that has been paying since day 1 of billing but if I don't pay up for my alt, no matter what sort of player I am, no chat. Nice presumption of guilt.

There are two "ignore" options and a newbie level restrict chat channel in the works. If we get a better reporting tool and some active ingame GM's this will eventually subside.

The naming block will never fly. Even if I'm playing for free I want to pick my own character names. Again, better reporting tools will help this to go away too.

without smacking you upside the head, the translation is this...

de-featuring free players is not the best solution to dealing with jackholes. the solution is better admin controls.

Just had another idea that might help with the world chat issue. When the devs get the newbie channel up why not put a level cap on the world chat., say level 10 or so. That would mean that if a player with a free account gets suspended for inappropriate comment on the world chat channel they cannot just create another account and do the same thing straight away they would have to get to a certain level. This would cut down on serial griefers as I doubt they would not want to level for 10 levels just to get banned again.

thats a foolish idea Flydd. The dev or GM never monitor public chat, if they did.. it would be a hell of a job for a low pay position.

btw theres a command to ignore world chat, thats what the dev smart enough to take care of all the whinnings. Do some homework : P
i'm start to lose respect for some so call lvl 100.

I had mentioned this ingame and got a good response, so I'll post it here.

Auto ban them for a few hours if they go over an /ignore limit in a short (10 ignores in a half hour?) time span. Flags them for the GMs to look at, and either unban or give a longer ban as neccessary.

Don't even have to ban then from the game, just ban them from using the chat channel!

Yes they dont monitor public chat at the moment but they do record all the chat logs. All I suggested was an ingame system similar to that which is in city of heroes where you can notify support if there is a problem with a certain individual being abusive. This feature already exists in other games published by NCSoft and they have support staff who deal with these incidents already so all they would be doing would be expanding how many games they cover.

Yes there is an ignore world chat command and the ability to ignore individuals but this only works for the chat channels people also have offensive names. Anyway Im sure there is an EULA you have to agree to which prohibits you from offensive behaviour before you log into the game so why should people who repeatedly act or chat in an offensive manner not be held accountable?

If this was aimed at me where have I ever claimed I am level 100? If it wasn't aimed at me why did you include this in my reply? My current level is lvl 34 which according to your logic in another thread means that I am already level 100 just like you.
