Clear guide to character attributes
#26532 - 06/30/07 04:56 PM |
Everyone has an opinion but I have yet to see an OFFICIAL explanation of what each attribute does in relation to weapon use. For example, how does STRENGTH affect my weapon or does it? Same for the rest of the skills. I've read the thread on point values: 1 pt STR = 8.26 DEF 1 pt AGI = 14 Attack Rating 1 pt END = 25 HP 1 pt INT = 17 mana etc but I'd like a precise explanation from NCSOFT to clear this up. I;ve wasted enough time playing with reset. |

Strength affects the damage of physical weapons (swords, axes, maces) and your Defense rating. But I'm sure they arent by a concrete amount, but rather a multiplier on your armors base defense, and your weapons base damage. I haven't bothered yet trying to figure out just what the multiplier is, but if its as simple as (Total Armor Defense * Strength * X) where X is some cosntant variable that they have defined, i woudlnt think calculating X would be too difficult... same goes for weapon damage. -------------------- CitizenSnips - Lvl 31 Shadow Mage |

the reason I ask is that alot of people do 100% str (fighters) or 100% agi (rangers) or 100% int (mages). I need to know how best to set the values in order to have a lean mean killing machine. |

That's basically what you do. One hundred percent for whatever your chosen profession is.The endurance comes from armor. |

I thought attack rating related to your percent chance to hit something... if you put everything in strength, how do you hit monsters? Are melee attacks and ranged attacks different? |

So you basically want the best killing machine handed to you without any effort on your part?? It all depends on the situation, the dungeon you are in the gear that you have avaiable, and your style of play. What someone else says is the definative build that works wonders for them may not work at all for another person. I like warriors, have always play a upclose type even when it was PnP. As a matter of fact my toon was started as a warrior and stayed that way for 60 lvls. He will eventually go back to being one but right now he is a mage and will probably be stay that way til i hit 100. As far as stats I'm running a mage character 2/3's of his base is in int. Base Total Str 10 5 Agi 10 5 End 120 230 Int 275 912 This works well for me. Would it work for someone else.... maybe, maybe not. My Attack Rating is 153 Defense is 1974. I hit maybe half the time with my weapon and do alittle damamge. But I could miss everytime and it wouldn't effect anything for me because I spam Shadow Lightening with left click. So build something see if it works and if you don't like it do it over again. Gary -------------------- Bogey ~ Warmanger Steele - Lvl 20-something Ranger We are all one race.... I agree fully with you bogey. Build your own character and see what works. If you need some advice listen to it, but I wouldn't recommend listening to other new players that are still in trial phases. Most players that have been around for awhile knows what works for them. Oh and whoever told you to make an all strength fighter I'm assuming hasn't played much. You will hit for alot but so rarely without a good amount of agi that it isn't worth it. Trial and error is the best way to learn. -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 42 - Shadow Merc Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.95 |

I'm not asking for silver spoon. Just clarification as to what the skills do in relation to your characters damage output. There is no official mention anywhere as to how the skill attributes affect your damage. I've been playing as a paying member for 2 weeks and I'm completely confused about the attributes. Should I put all points into strength? Or do I need agility? Agility seems to boost attack rating. Strength seems to boost Defence. So since there is no explanation anywhere as to what anything does it leads me to believe that strength is a defence only thing, and agility is what you need for attacking. But then in the forums and worldchat you see so many conflicting opinions. I mean really what is it. Does strength affect both your attack and defence, if so why does setting points in strength not raise attack rating at all? You have to look at it from the point of view of someone who is new to the game and wants to learn what the point of having those attributes is. This game is pure awesome, I;'ve been waiting years for sometihng like this. But until I can get a clear understanding of what exactly the toon atributes do and if your supposed to mix them or what have you, then frankly it leaves me confused and not enjoying the game as much as I wish I were and could be. So anyways I've reset again and gone from 100% to 50% str and 50% agi and I notice absolutely no difference in attacking a monster. |

there is some "official" mention of what the stats do ingame. If you hover your mouse over the words Strength, Agility, etc in the Character window, it gives you a little tip. Strength effects Melee Damage and Defense Agility effects Ranged Damage and Attack Rating Endurance effects your total Health Intellect effects Spell Damage and total Mana For a well rounded fighter, I would personally suggest doing 3 Strength and 2 Agility each level, and get a lot of endurance from equipment. But one of the beauties of the "classless" system in DR is that you can build interesting hybrids that are much less straight forward - so you may end up doing things differently. -------------------- CitizenSnips - Lvl 31 Shadow Mage |

Sigh.... 1. what lvl are you? because up to a certain extent based on your lvl and the dungeon lvl agi makes very little difference on the to hit for a warrior. 2. were you missing an excessive amount a times when you were 100% str? if you missed less than 20% of the time adding agi is not going to be noticable unless you are willing to keep track for 100 attacks then it may only change by a percent or 2 3. what type gear are you using? as a warrior i had 13k hp by lvl 30. I used Blaag's premise of 3/2 but went str/end instead of str/agi and used ranger gear for the high agi bonus's and the lack of movement penalties So again is what you are doing not working? or are you not having fun with it? If so change it. I've changed my build probably 6-8 times in the last 16 lvl's trying for that just right feel... Gary |

After seeing this post I decided to do a little maths work using my warrior alt on the test server. With no equipment this is what I came up with by doing a respec. **********No Passives were active*************** HP = 25*END+16*lvl MP = 17*INT+5*lvl AR = 14*AGI+70 DEF= 8.25*STR+Armours defence rating Damage is harder the numbers I posted before for damge seem wrong. Edited when data checked with my main character. All equations seem to have a level bonus built in. |
