Why a ranger?
#26278 - 06/29/07 10:36 AM |
I just wanted to know all of your opinions about rangers. Why'd you choose them in the first place? What do you like or don't like about them? Did you re-spec to another class or become a hybrid? Right now I am a lvl 22 ranger. What I like about rangers is they hardly miss because they have a high attack rating (at least with my build, putting most points into agil). However, the range of an xbow is pretty bad and xbows have a low max dmg. I'm a nonmember so the only ranged weapons I've used so far are xbows and shotguns, and a good xbow has a higher DPS than a shotgun at the same lvl. I've heard Tachan soloed the Shadow Queen in ten seconds. Are rangers really that good? I heard rangers were nerfed, so was that before the patch? |

For Tachan he can currently do that. But he also has a complete (or almost) set of increase chance of critical damage, this increases his DPS greatly. Rangers were nerfed at times during the various builds but so were fighters and mages. They are still tweaking balance with each build. -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 42 - Shadow Merc Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.95 |

I can solo Shadow Queen in HDoL with no problem. Usually takes about 10-15 minutes to get to her depending on the map and then about 2-5 minutes to kill depending on the spawn with her. I have only died once so far and that is just because I was watching TV and playing at the same time ![]() If it is this easy and quick at 45, I can only imagine how quick a lvl 100 can do it. -------------------- OracleX (74) - Pure Agility Ranger - World 4 Complainers of the World Unite - Thanks to Ripper_McGee |

Realize the queen does scale up with your level. The level 100 queen would stomp you once and kill you. She has killed my warrior at level 85 in 2 hits when I run with 100's. -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 42 - Shadow Merc Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.95 |

Quote: The Shadow Queen in HDoL isn't the real Queen. The real Queen is the boss of Shadow's Embrace. She starts at level 50 and scales up with you as you level to 100. |

I love the Ranger cause it's fun throwing out Turkey Leg and then mowing all the enemies down before they even get to you. Plus, it seems there aren't a ton of Rangers out (most I play with/see are Fighters or Mages). That and I'm an old Ranger fan from D2 days (Amazon). ~V -------------------- ~ Adiroch ~ ~ Lvl 3x Ranger ~ ~ World 3 ~ |

Personally ranging in this game isn't what I hoped it to be. I thought that I would be able to snipe down all the enemies before they get to me. That is hardly, if ever the case. My single target DPS (at lvl 22 with most points in agility) is about the same as a warrior but I have a lower def rating and hp. My max range with a crossbow is about 4 steps from the enemy. Soul Rend is also stronger than Poison Shot for single target damage. Usually what happens is I take out 1 large enemy before all the fodder and other enemies get to me, then I start Gaseous Blasting and Ring of Firing them before I shoot them down while they're standing next to me. The turkey bait doesn't help me; it only lasts a few seconds before the monsters destroy it. Hitting and running isn't very fun, and its not possible if I'm backed into a corner. |

If you want to hit enemies from a long distance you can hold down shift, this will make you able to hit enemies from a much greater range than without holding shift. |

I've not had any problems with mowing enemies down from the distance. I use the shift key regularly and I can routinely mow them down line by line as they come towards me. -------------------- ~ Adiroch ~ ~ Lvl 3x Ranger ~ ~ World 3 ~ |

I love being a ranger because we don't have any crowd control, no useful AoE spells, no real power. We only rely on the speed of the crossbow and on the agility... It's awesome.. |

Quote: No crowd control? Try using your BBQ more. Works nice. Don't like that go play a warrior. No AoE spells? Gasous Blast pretty much kills a trash/fodder mobs in one use. Don't like that go play a mage. No real power? From what I have seen, rangers can take down bosses faster than any other class. Don't like that don't play the game. -------------------- OracleX (74) - Pure Agility Ranger - World 4 Complainers of the World Unite - Thanks to Ripper_McGee |
