Finally looted my 1st shotgun last night in Terror Dome lvl 3. Wowzers. Talk about a fun weapon. Love the look, the sound, and the damage. Didn't like the slowness. hehe. But most definitely a cool weapon.

So for you up and coming Rangers. Better weapons lie ahead...

It may be slow... But I really like my shotty! The damage is quite impressive.

The maximum damage, yes. But not the damage per second...

I have found it easier to solo with an XBow but when grouping in HDoL, I grab a heavy hitting shotty and play healer killer. By the time one gets a heal on the other, it is too late. They are also great group weapons when you need to remove that last large chunk of health quickly.

Not as much the slowness that will hurt you, it's the broad gap between min and max damage. The range between the two is what decides the damage you put out, and you'll find most of the time you'll hit with something in the middle. On shotguns, the min-max is something akin to 2 to 10, whereas with most types of xbows the damage range is more like 4 to 6 and faster. The shorter range I find makes your damage much more consistant, and you'll find if you do the dps calculation it is tough to find a shotgun that will beat a xbow dps-wise

DamagePerSecond = MinDam + MaxDam / 2 / Speed

You'll find when you do this figuring from your character sheet data, you will rarely (if ever?) find a shotgun or popper that will outdo a xbow

I actually like the slowness for one reason. The AoE poison shot. The delay is long enough that when i reapply it the first application has worn off. Yea i could just have it on the bar and use anouther skill there...but i am lazy.

Unfortunately though with that intention, trying to fit poison shots in between firings and make it viable, you'll actually find that the xbow's raw damage just from the bolts will actually outdo that poison shot's dot damage by the time it's cast and you get back to shooting. So in the end, the raw dps and physical damage on a xbow will actually outdo the damage from most guns with spells between.
oh wait hehe quick edit, see you put ae shot there, hmm, well in that case it probably becomes a much closer arguement, although I would still go fast xbow, finish the boss/hero/champ, then turn on and one shot the fodder/normies after. Which technique would win would be a close call I'm certain.

The truth is that in the end i dont want to be hit in the face with a shotgun slug or a xbow bolt. I would think they both would hurt.

what is the lowest lvl shotguns can be used at, and are there non-member shotguns? i have only ever seen high lvl ones, and they were member only stuff. im talking about the guy in town that sells them. but yea, when should shotguns become available? ty

There are low-level shotguns out there but I think the lowest lvl ones i've seen are about lvl 17 or so. Lots of non-member guns out there too.

What tickles my senses is that a shotgun is usually a little spread out when it shoot, hitting many targets at once, that's where the effiency of shotgun is, which is not the case right now.

Anybody know what the weapons speeds mean in terms of shots per minute? It seems like normal is 60/min and v.fast is 120/min. Are those right and what are the others?

I recently started using shotguns and I have to say that I prefer then over crossbows. I still hang on to two nice purple crossbows for a higher rate of fire, but I like the shoti's better. I actually picked up a nice purple gun that I'll be able to use in one more level.

My gun that I might actually end up using some time in the near future. (Waiting for more +gun gear)
