Enemy Resists
#24395 - 06/14/07 02:38 PM

On my mage when i got up to around level 30 i seemed to encounter more and more mobs who kept resisting lots of my spells. Is there any way to decrease their change of resisting or do i just have to slog it out? It is especially annoying on healing bosses because it can be hard to do enough damage when i'm only hitting every 1/4 times.

Well, the biggest problem for you is the mobs resistance i think. Just like players mobs have different resistances to different kinds of damage. One mob might have a whole lot of shadow res and almost no ice, while the other has almost no shadow and moderate ice and fire resistance. Annoying at times, but it does keep the game fun since no mob can be easily killed using the same approach.

When you encounter mobs that resist a lot, simply switch to a spell that does a different type of damage. That way you will most likely find the mobs weak spot. If you do, just nuke him with the damage type he is not resistant to and presto, Dead Enemy

Lemme guess, you just ventured into Embercore path? I know, it's a bish and really nothing to do. They are resistant to all magic, not just one kind, so no magic thing to do. Just run past them deeper into the dungeon where you find other mobs.

What I think you may have run into Anndy is the soft level cap for magic use. The dungeon areas have a certain range and if you get too far ahead where you are 5 levels or more below the mobs the extra resist bonus kicks in. Mobs are essentially invincible to magic attacks. Before December back in the beta period we didn't have either level caps on skills or elemental resists. The players were way way too overpowered against the game system. What the soft cap does is forces you to re run some of the lower dungeons for a while until you are in the the "right" level range. For mages this is more noticeable and hits right about the beginning of Embercore. If you are a mage and under level 35, you will encounter a lot of highly resistant mobs or immune mobs in Embercore Path. This only effects spell damage and not physical weapon damage so Rangers and Fighters can still advance.

Don't feel bad if you have to backtrack a bit and re run the dungeons as it's really just part of the game. I made at least 15 levels running one instance repeatedly (Fade Caves) because it was very very efficient for xp gain.
