Ranger Build
#22777 - 06/01/07 02:12 PM

Did a lot of thinking through 3 different characters. Went back to my level 36 fighter and decided to respec him as a Ranger. How to do the stats though?

My choice was to pump straight agility and then wear all fighter equipment with endurance on it. Then use any gun/x-bow that had high endurance on it. With the fighter equipment my defense is much higher than it would be with ranger equipment. Though I am much slower. A gun finishes this off perfectly. The slow but deadly Ranger....

Level 38 now....

Edit
Left click: trigger finger frenzy
right click: gaseous blast
shadow lightning
improved shadow lightning
improved bmi
gym freak
hair fine trigger finger(or whatever)

The defense boon is miniscule at best if you use all fighter equipment. I'd look for Zippity Newt or Accurate Newt gear, the former being roughly 3/4 agi and 1/4 stam + attack speed with the latter being 3/4 agi and 1/4 stam with ranged critical hit chance. You should have more than enough HP from those modifiers if you use the HP passives, Average BMI and Brute Strength(think that was the name of the warrior passive).

That gives me over 17k HP at level 100. More than enough to tackle anything.

I knew i should have mentioned in there somewhere that it was a non member build. I will probably change it once I become a member.

Edit: the endurance gain is enormous because that is the only thing on the armor. I have close to 10,000 hp right now. It is all crystal armor. I forget of the whats.

You can still get non-member items with the same modifiers. They may not be easy to find(for members and non-members), but you can find them.

Yeah, I've gotten non member stuff better than the member stuff sometimes.

Spells are actually really messed up how it stands. Because it was originally a classed system, all the spells from the fighter/ranger tree are -very- cheap to cast, but the mage spells are extremely expensive to cast. This gives mages a huge advantage in that they can use aoe ranger/fighter spells if they so choose (though the only actually useful spell is currently the poison gas), but rangers cannot use mage spells as readily because they're adjusted to mage's huge mana pool. Thus, spells like Shadow lightning or ring of fire use up 130 mana of our small mana pools.

Not to mention, int affects spell damage a lot. So you'd basically be wasting time with spells in the first place. Unless there are 6-8 creeps around you, You're better off shooting a mob for 400-500 vs casting lvl 1 ring of fire. To use spells you'd have to evenly divide stat points into agility and intel.

Well I am only 16 so dont shoot me. But why not Poison Shot as your right click?

Thats how I been wading in to good effect. It has awesome mana efficiency and a weapon based fast refresh so its my primary burn spell. The typical named encounter is the TFF of course followed by a whole lot of poison shot spamming on his support. Once the support is out of the way alternate left and right clicks as the dot wears off the named. Only takes a few seconds.

I only occasionally need to drink a single potion playing like this. Its hard to believe the game changes that much in 20 levels that the pattern isnt going to be the same.

Poison Shot isnt the only thing I use but gaseous cloud has a long refresh good for "1" and poison shot has awesome mana efficiency good for "right click"

Oh I use passives of:
Gym Freak
Average BMI
Trigger Happy

Same as you.

But also a few levels ago I added :
Book Worm

You take a hit on hp. At 16 just with what gear I found and less than precise early stats I go from 3051 to 2782 HP by putting book worm on. But I go from 91 mana to 253 which is percentage wise very efficien and is all the difference in the world when spamming 26 mana poison shots that land for 260 to 484 dot damage (i think in addition to normal arrow? It seems like it based on how they crit occasionally?)
26 mana for 260 to 484 damage? Compare to mage spell damage efficiency...

Now this is all from level 16 perspective. But if I had the numbers for level 36 versions of poison shot I would figure it out myself. But my basic question is why not poison shot?

BTW once you go over to poison shot the chain lightning line looks like a big waste of mana. So I load noxious shot for the occasion when I am sorround by alot of mobs. If its a lead of situation I would just assume lay down the poison shots as they come in with the mana.

My current slots are:
Left: Trigger Finger Frenzy
Right: Poison Shot
Passives: Trigger Happy, Gym Freak, Average BMI, Book Worm
Actives:
Gaseous Blast
Acid Blight
Noxious Shot
Ice Bolt (its a slow for named but I am so overwhelming lately it doesnt get used), also have used another efficient ae here.

left click. Spam right and left until they get close. Press gaseous blast and acid blast when sorrounded. And spam right click death until oom...

I spent almost all my stats in agi and end.

Check to see if it works at 35 its pretty darn good for leveling though let me tell ya.

I'm 46, ill put my stat on agi 3-4 end 1-2 or 1 in Int.
I have my gear with end agi and +%x to ranged attack speed, it works very well, greaking fast crossbow with a +6% to speed..
My first button is the buff quick ranged attack, the other poison area, decrease armor monser, poison shot with area, righenous stomp, monster bai ( it is so useful , not in HDOL ), 6 7 8 passive from ranger and the 1 from warrior that gives much more hp from endurance. Right click is poison shot.I have about 10-11 k of HP 1k of mana.
