DR Rules!
#21737 - 05/27/07 12:51 AM |
This is just some WoW player who's come here to say that Dungeon Runners RULES. I haven't been able to quit playing this game since I started. It was like this for WoW too at the beginning for me, but Dungeon Runners is unique in that the game's action never stops. In WoW it's all about walking or flying somewhere or grinding mobs and so on. Dungeon Runners is all about grinding, but the grinding is insanely fun. Now why is that? Let's see... 1) Players teleport instantaneously to your party. 2) Players auto-join your party. 3) Any group makeup can take on any dungeon and any boss. 4) Solo players can solo while in auto-join group mode. 5) MASS ammounts of monsters; ability to pull more than one group at a time. 6) Bosses that drop loot for everyone. 7) Treasure chests everywhere. 8) Loot everywhere. 9) Fast paced explosive action everywhere. 10) Ability to multiclass or hybridize your character. Almost anything is possible. 11) The dungeons and monsters simply own. So what are the bad reasons to play Dungeon Runners? Hmm? Here is what I will admit... 1) No PvP on launch means PvP was taken as a secondary priority. The die hard PvPers like me become sad from this, but look at how explosive this game's action is. 2) The graphics have a cartoony look. That is a plus in some regard. The textures look nice also; but my camera gets stuck behind walls in tight spots and view is hindered by too much fog in the distance. I think the graphics engine is being held back, it could look so much better. 3) Underestimated game. People look at the game and then close their web-browser because they weren't interested in a free game that has a simple goal of running through dungeons getting treasure. People are simply missing out. 4) Members only get the best loot. It's a great way to force free players into wanting to pay, but bad because it has side effects such as turning people down who simply felt like it was a scam. I myself am a member who paid the cheesey five dollars, but clearly people feel skeptical and other negative thoughts about the advantages the members get over the free players. Sadly blue items are still great in power, the mythical and yellow/purple items just have resists out the gazoo and just a little more attributes. It's not a big deal. But I can feel the pain of not having a bank. That's just a cheap shot. 5) Too many quests drive people bonkers. I think there should be a message that says "You can accept an infinite ammount of quests, so just accept every single one of them!" because I noticed some people feel overwhelmed and don't even do the quests. 6) Too much picking up of loot. Sometimes the loot spams the screen and all I can see is items everywhere. There should be an auto-pickup gold feature where all gold automatically goes to the owner. 7) Some bonuses from items don't have clear explaination to what they do. Some of these include +crit % bonuses and it doesn't seem clear how much agility is necessary for the player to know how well their hit chance is doing. 8) Items from vendors tend to not make any sense. 9) 100 levels feels overwhelming and seems it's necessary for the website to include information that the trek from 1 to 100 is possible and can be achieved casually over time so there is encouragement to keep going. 10) Less people are playing Rangers! Buff them or something for crying out loud! ![]() The thing is, all of these bad factors tend to be really small problems. And the Devs are already working on most of them. DR rules. And that's all I can really type up for the moment. It was too long I know but I hope it was agreeable. Thanks for reading. -------------------- 43 Mage Edited by Plasmicmage (05/27/07 12:56 AM) |

I agree, I cancelled my vanguard subscription for this cause this is just sooo much fun compared to it. On the whole I agree with your post but there are things I don't fully agree on and it's mostly your disappointments. ![]() 1) No PvP on launch means PvP was taken as a secondary priority. The die hard PvPers like me become sad from this, but look at how explosive this game's action is. Honestly though, why would you expect pvp in a dungeon crawling game to beginwith? That's really the point to it being a dungeon crawler, you, and your friends, party up, enter a dungeon and lay the smackdown to mobs and bosses along the way, gathering all the shinies and selling or using them, always advancing. I was kinda glad there was no pvp cause that tends to bring out the idiots in people 'lol u nub u cant pvp vry well i roxor j00!' 2) The graphics have a cartoony look. That is a plus in some regard. The textures look nice also; but my camera gets stuck behind walls in tight spots and view is hindered by too much fog in the distance. I think the graphics engine is being held back, it could look so much better. I'd say the graphics style the game portrays is perfect for what it is meant for, lots of action on the screen with great fps to keep you in the action playing instead of watching slideshows. Style>graphics, look at wow. 3) Underestimated game. People look at the game and then close their web-browser because they weren't interested in a free game that has a simple goal of running through dungeons getting treasure. People are simply missing out. Hmm, well, if people get turned off by screenshots or just how the website looks then the game is not for them and they live in a small world, the people who are open minded to new things would actually make the effor to try the game out despite how the website looks. Hmm, this is a touchy one, I actually did member up, but that was only after about 10 levels, I was enjoying it as a free player, the items were still very useful and the member stuff I couldn't use still served a purpose: Vendor fodder for much needed gold. 5) Too many quests drive people bonkers. I think there should be a message that says "You can accept an infinite ammount of quests, so just accept every single one of them!" because I noticed some people feel overwhelmed and don't even do the quests. Now think for a second, if you COULDN'T gather ALL the quests you could then you would be going back and forth from the dungeon to town more then you do now to unload gear to a vendor, THAT would waste time and be totally opposite from what a dungeon crawl is about: Getting quests, doing said quests and getting the rewards and the loot along the way. Hell I say 'BRING ON MORE QUESTS!' 6) Too much picking up of loot. Sometimes the loot spams the screen and all I can see is items everywhere. There should be an auto-pickup gold feature where all gold automatically goes to the owner. Hmm, I actually enjoy all that loot hitting the ground, more stuff to sell, no real comment on the gold, although I do get more of a better feeling when I mozy on over to that 1k+ pile of gold that just spewed forth from the slayed boss then I would it automatically going 'pop' in my bag ![]() 7) Some bonuses from items don't have clear explaination to what they do. Some of these include +crit % bonuses and it doesn't seem clear how much agility is necessary for the player to know how well their hit chance is doing. Hmm, I can't comment too much on that as I make things fall over dead with my spells 8) Items from vendors tend to not make any sense. Don't really understand what you mean here. 9) 100 levels feels overwhelming and seems it's necessary for the website to include information that the trek from 1 to 100 is possible and can be achieved casually over time so there is encouragement to keep going. So the game should only have 50 levels? Seems kinda boring and short for a dungeon crawler don't you think? More levels=more dungeons to do. 10) Less people are playing Rangers! Buff them or something for crying out loud! Hmm, I see plenty of people with x-bows, dunno about you, they have a classless thing now so you don't HAVE to specifically create a ranger to be one. |

Quote: Well that's fine. I meant for the disappointments to be flawed when I wrote this. The point was that the bad things about this game have easy solutions. No game is perfect but Dungeon Runners has it good, honestly, there are easy solutions to all these problems. (not to make it sound like magic) 1) Despite that fact that the point of the game is different, it still leaves it open for standards that gamers who are going to fork over their money expect. So when it comes down to it, PvPers expect PvP. Anyways, PvP would be fun in this game. Just as long as the Devs still know what's fun (and reputation speaks very highly of them in that regard). They could explore all sorts of PvP aspects. Just as a personal note, Random Team vs. Team I expect would be the most popular. And yes I hate PvP where people can talk back to each other. I'd rather PvP be silenced like most MMOs do. 2) I love the graphics too. The huge wrenches, the giant 2h pizza slicers, the shotguns and BFG 9001s... oh the awesomeness.. Some people with 10,000$ alienware computers just can't "sink that low" to play such an awesome game. It's their problem, not Dungeon Runner's. I only pointed out it CAN look even better than it does now. 3) Oh, people do still give it a try, but experienced gamers know a good game when they see one, and inexperienced gamers don't know a good game when they see one. This doesn't give any data you can use if you base the playerbase on this concept, but you see my point? People tend to think they know what's best for them despite their experience with anything. 4) Vendor fodder indeed. 5) Actually I meant to point out this is a good thing with this line. I was pointing out people are inherently stupid when questing, and don't notice the significant advantage of grabbing every quest. ![]() 6) I'd rather keep the items on the ground, but I'd prefer a feature to auto-loot gold. Most games have a /toggle for it anyways. 7) I too, explode spell power all over faces. 8) They just seem awkward. Forget it. 9) I mean there should be an explaination somewhere, whether be it ingame or outgame that describes the level process. If it takes years to get to 100, that's a putdown to many people. Casual is where it's at these days. It's the hip thing, yo. 10) I can't find many Ranger friends anywhere, and the ones I do are sad, sad people, who talk about rolling mages or fighters, or respeccing and buying the skills. They mumble about my insane Shadow+Fire+Poison AoE and ability to also do decent single target dmg. -------------------- 43 Mage Edited by Plasmicmage (05/27/07 02:31 AM) |

But why would pvpers come to a game that screams pve only for the most part and demand pvp? It seems to happen to every pve game i've seen. "ZOMG! It's a pve game but it NEEDS PVP DAMNIT!!!" Just makes no sense really. I paid to access the pretty yellow and purple items, not for pvp specifically .What do you need explained about leveling though? Go out, kill beasties and level up, you'll eventually hit 100, what else is there to know? If it takes someone years to get to 100 when i've already reached 20 in a few days then they must really only play like 20 minutes at a time. ![]() Hmm, and about the rangers, well, that's usual class envy, what's stopping them from just respeccing and buying mage spells? |

It does not take years to get to level 100. There are currently 8 level 100's in the game. 2 ranger, 3 mage, 3 fighter. Playtime to hit 100 varies but seems to fall in the 130-150 hours range. Type /played at the command line for your days/hours stats. There are now quite a few players above level 70 so we should have a few more 100's very soon. -------------------- ------------------------------------------------- MamaAnarchia Level 100 Genius Arch Arcane Mage Parkaboy Level 53 Athletic Seasoned Poison Ranger CaycePollard (50) BooneChu (8) Retired. |

i too would like freeloader bank access -maybe freebees would only have -one page- in bank -members would have -two pages AND could upgrade<later>- seems fair..members would still have more space than freebz -although most members would probly prefer more BAG space -than freebies..which im also fine with<so they can xplore longer> |

Quote: Ah, and you finally are seeing the light. People are complicated. Quote: Well after reading further the other posts it appears it doesn't take an eternity to get to 100. That is great news. That kind of knowledge needs to be public knowledge, is what I'm saying. (Encouragement is an amazing thing) Quote: That's the point. Don't you see. They want Ranger to be just as viable/practical as other classes. However, I was only joking about Rangers... so it kind of becomes a vain point, but I wasn't lying when I said every ranger I've met is a sad person. :P -------------------- 43 Mage |
