Mage Stats... End and Int only?
#20603 - 05/09/07 12:34 PM

Is there any reason to pick up Str or Dex for the mage? I don't plan to melee with my weapon at all.

What's a good stat distribution? So far I've just been alternating putting 5 points into End and Int with each level up, and haven't put anything at all into Str or Dex.

Also, can stats be reset at all, or are they permanent once they are in there?

At this point your stats are permanent. In one of the future updates (hopefully soon) there will be a restat available.

If you are playing as a pure casting mage there is no reason to put points in str or agi. At level 30 I have yet to put any in. Give yourself enouth end so you die to often and everything else into Int. It will give you massive amount of mana and the highest damage for a mage.

Up to now I've always put 2 into End and 3 into Int with every lvlup .. Imo there is no use to put points into Str, as your defence will always suck. So it doesn't matter how hard it does

Someone should test that with def.. I know with agi, people with fighters have seen how low they can go while still getting a reasonable hitrate. Someone should find the ideal str level for a mage, because I have a feeling a few points here and there would be worth it.

if you have the coin.... test it on the test server... and let us all know. since my char is geared for a fighter, i cant really change out all my gear, collect new stuff and figure out a good balance(not gonna put that time into a char that will be deleted next char copy)

I'd been thinking of trying my fighter out as a battle mage anyway, so if I find myself with a lot of spare time I might.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the idea of a mage to be able to annihilate the enemies with magic BEFORE they beat you down? In this sense, Defense should have nothing to do with your build, as you should be going for damage output and hp to survive. Battlemages on the other hand are something completely different.I would consider those more or less weaker fighters that balance out with magic damage, in which case defense would play a much larger part.

Honestly, after playing around with a battlemage and pure mage build, battlemages would better suit you for variety in your arsenal, but you would probably want to group with others more.(Or carry lots of potions). I haven't had any troubles with pure mage solo (low defense, high bonuses to end/int/ice/shadow, resistances in all), the toughest fight was probably against Sissirat when I was 16, but even then I only had to use 1 mana pot and 3 health pots. It seems to get easier with every level.

Argh, this thread is from May. But yes I agree Mages should just focus on Damage in a potion spammer game.
