Meleeing Mage
#20544 - 05/07/07 03:22 PM

I am building a meleeing Mage. Is there any recommendation on how I may go to do this?

Right now, for spells I have 'Shadow Lighting' on the left mouse click. 'Ring of Fire' on the hot key 1. All the resists on other hotkeys. 'Shadow Bolt' on the right mouse click.

Lots and lots of end. Dual wield is probably a good idea, for the bonuses.

do you think I can duel wield. There is a slot for a shield and a weapon

Yeah, just put another one-handed weapon in the shield space. If you're getting killed a lot, though, you might need a shield for defense at the lower levels.

I suggest going with a fighter if you going to do that you'll end up wasting pts intended for endurance and int...

I'd almost say a ranger would work best for a melee magic class, because you need int and end. Fighters are crippled on int, and mages, on end. But that doesn't get you the +25% spell damages that mages have. I'd say, do it with a mage.

My level 18 mage called "Flameseeker" uses Shadow Lighting in left click and Ring of Fire in right click. Most important factor in items is that they are blue and higher armor than previous one. My weapons also are two handed blues where I focus damage. INT is about all what you need to put points yourself. Endurance is pretty useless if you can't damage enemy.

But now you *can* make a ranger with the +20% spell damage that mages have.

Since the patch, I'm playing a melee mage with a fighter base - Arcane Fighter. I mainly use my weapons, but I have a few AoE attacks. I'm sure I'll get my build more polished, but right now I have:

Passive traits:
+20% melee attack speed
Gym freak
Average BMI
Bookworm

I have str/end as my highest stats, with agi slightly lower and int a bit lower than that. I'm hoping that they'll fix the agi nerf, which will let me take points out of agi and put them into end, and then I can get rid of average BMI.
