DPS Stats
#19045 - 04/01/07 11:30 PM

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet or not, but could we get Damage Per Second stats on weapons?

When I get more powerful weapon that's speed says "Grandma", it's hard to tell what exactly that means. It's slow, obviously, but you can't tell how slow until you equip it and try it out. And, even then, it's hard to tell if it's any more effective than you're last weapon.

It has been discussed both pre and post-beta board wipe. I believe that the devs have stated that they would prefer not to show the exact DPS calculations.

Personally, I don't see the need for it. One of my main sources of enjoyment in this game is it's irreverent sense of humor, which includes the weapon speed ratings of Grandma through Ludicrous.

That being said, I would like a combat log so that I could see how much damage I do in one night's gaming session. You could certainly extrapolate crude DPS numbers from such a log should you want to...

I never understood why most games keep their combat formulae secret. Guess its not something they are proud of.

It keeps the nerds down, and stops postings like (you have to imagine this being said in a high pitched whiney voice)

Quote:

According to my calculation my setup gives a DPS of 123 but infact it only gives damage of 122. What gives? It is rediculus that the developers cant even implement their own blah blah blah

But can I ask for one change in the caluclation

Code:

if (character == "Blenda")
{
damage *= 10;
}

Personally id select a weapon based on more than just its DPS. Id go for a lesser DPS weapon with better stats, higher low-end hits, speed most importantly, and sometimes even looks. Showing us the medium DPS of a weapon also doesnt take into account our miss rate, other gear choices, and many other factors.

It would give us a quick way to begin to judge the quality of a drop at a moments notice before shift+clicking it as vendor trash though.

I'm in favor of a DPS counter myself. Something that tracks the damage you output and just calculates it.

It can be reset and so on.

This allows you to determine things like if you're missing too much or if certain creates are more vulnerable to particular types of damage.

This may not appeal to all types of player, but for those who actually like cruching numbers it gives the game a whole new dimension.

I would like:

- Miss rate for each weapon type
- Base DPS based on speed * average base damage per swing

I know the largest issue is that since this is a clicking game your personal dps can be lowered through just a misclick, ect...

I think adding a DPS number or weapon speed and hit range numbers would be good. As much as I like the funny tags adding at least some kind of general speed range for them would be nice even if it was a little bit randomized like weapon speed of 2-2.5 and hit range between 3 to 5feet.
