Mages and Soloing Vergrim
#18630 - 03/28/07 02:45 PM |
Based on the new patch all the bosses should be solo-able. I'm wondering if anyone has had much luck soloing Vergrim when they are in their low 20s? I can barely damage vergrim and his bodyguards right now. Their HP's massive and they appear to resist half my spells. And even if I could slowly kill them given enough time, the two roaming bodyguard take turns knocking me down and the summoned pets keep getting in my way. I'm about 50/50 int/end build and I've tried shadow lightning, ring of fire, poison cloud etc to no avail. Short of upping my DEF rating significantly so I can stand there and take the hits, does anyone know of strategies that work? |

I feel your pain. Fighting bosses as a mage is an excersize in futility, even after the patch. My mage build is about 4:1 in favor of Int and with the loss of heavy damage it's hopeless. If you are intent on killing bosses I'd group with a tank to take the heat off you so you can nuke at range. Maybe in the future we will get a summoned familiar that can tank for us. |

I'm having little problem soloing bosses right now. The bosses can Red and Hero's all conned yellow to me. While I have not tried Vergrim since I think he may be Green or Yellow to me now, I did do the Widowmaker and the Snow Chieftin all day today. If your having problems doing them and you think you should be doing them just fine let me know when I'm in game and I'll let you know how to beat them. Take care and cya all again later Rhonen |

Does the bosses you mentioned keep knocking you down or have bodyguards that do? That's really the crux of my problem. If I could remain standing long enough to do damage, I'd stand a chance, but they keep knocking me down when I run and I'm forced to stand still which makes it pretty suicidal as well. At some point I'll go heavy DEF, END and see if I can last longer. But if I need to go heavy DEF & END to handle bosses is the only way I can do bosses, then what's the point of playing a mage? |

yeah we were having a discussion on that today. I soloed vergrim before at like lvl 10 or 20..it took me a lot of healing potions but I did it. Now all the sudden at lvl 21 after the patch (?) I can't do it anymore. There is something she does..that takes me from full health to dead. In ONE hit. IDK I play by myself a lot..so soloing is kind of a must for me. It's very frustrating. |

Yes, the knockdown is definitely the problem. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't spend 3-5 seconds on the ground before you would get up. Add to that the stuns from the ranged attacks. When you aren't on the floor immobilized you are stunned in place. Just horrible design. *queue next post mentioning the stun resist buff* |
