Nerfed a bit too much?
#17540 - 03/21/07 01:45 PM

Any other people see there damage drop by HUGE numbers?
I was doing 560-1200 last night with my mythic bow. I expected it to balance out at somewhere a little less than that. But not where it is now. I do about 240-410 damage. With the SAME mythic bow. It isn't even the same bow anymore either. Different name and all. Overall, I am a little perturbed that at level 31, I'm doing level 15 damage. Oh well...

The damage on my bow was halved, and it went from Fast to Normal.. To boot my waypoint was at the Queen when I logged off last, and after the patch, it was set to the boss of the PREVIOUS dungeon. I don't want to go through all 7 levels of The Shadow's Embrace, especially since I have used 120 potions just to find the stairs to level 2.

My damage went from ~2200-4400 to 1000-2000

what are the levels of the monsters you are fighting? I believe there is an automatic reduction of 10% for every level the mob is above you. Just a thought it might not apply.

yeah, but Ranged damage should be high. If your a person, and you get hit in the neck by an arrow, your probably going to die. Period. haha...

Fireball already "did" do more than my arrows. My buddy did 3-4x the damage I did pre-patch. All I am saying is GIVE ME MY OLD MYTHIC WEAPON BACK. It went from +41 Agi/+41 Int/+71 End to +78 Int...It isn't even called the same thing anymore. Talk about lame. It isn't more Mythical either. It's less Mythical now.

ranged damage was supposed to be high so that mages (who have little armor) are able to solo.

now that my fireball does half the damage I am finding myself in melee with everything i'm fighting.

was this intended? why take away the plate armor graphics if thats what mages are really supposed to be wearing

My fireball does more dmg than Uriel or tachan arrows but when I cast 1 fireball they shoot 10 arrows.

Wait, how was ranged damage too high? Most of the other non-ranged weapons have more damage to them. We don't have Area Effect arrows, we can only attack 1 target at a time.

The DoT spells are cool but still don't pack much of a punch vs. large groups of mobs.. It's nice that only a certain amount of melee mobs can attack you at once, but you can still be hit by an infinite amount of caster/ranged mobs, like every group in The Shadows Embrace.

Now for every 2 or 3 hits I do of about 1200 damage, I get hit 15 times for 325 damage. And I have to hit each mob around 10 times to kill them.

I still can't believe my waypoint got changed. I really don't feel like going through the entire Shadow's Embrace dungeon AGAIN. At least at the Queen I might have been able to maybe get a new, better weapon.

I think everyones ranged damage dropped a huge amount
ice bolt now does the same damage as fireball at rank 6 AND has the snare effect. SO I'm switchin to ice for now. =D

I play UlrichWolfsbane, a level 57 ranger. I, too, was pretty shocked this morning when I logged in and found that my max ranged damage dropped from 1918 to 858. That's a 69.5% drop in damage. Additionally, my bow attack speed went from fast to normal, which means I putting out even less damage.

That being said, I still did fine. It definitely took me longer to kill mobs, but I was still able to do so with little effort. Yes, I had to use pots, but it was definitely doable. Here's what I fought:

Shadow's Embrace - almost all of level 1. No major problems, but did use pots occasionally. Used fire resist, retribution and trigger finger frenzy as self buffs when available.

HDoL - cleared two spawns - didn't seem too much more difficult, but as it turns out, I used a ton of pots.

Personally, I thought the game was too easy before. Sure, it's fun to deal out massive amounts of damage, but I actually wanted a difficulty slider put in the game. I'll continue to test further to see if there's any area I really can't do well.

Yeah, i know what your saying. It's just when I play a game, I like to enjoy it. For me, I am pleased when I can clear an entire level of a dungeon in 5 min. Sure, it's probably not meant to be played that way, but It's all about personal preference. Point in case is, the huge damage penalty makes me feel less prone to play. For damage junkies like myself. It's a hard hit. The game itself is all right overall. As with all new things there's trial and error...and for me, my own "personal" opinion is that this game is no longer as fun as it was before.

At level 100, I find The Shadow's Embrace is now about as hard as HDoL was pre-patch.. I am sucking potions down at a much greater rate than I get money to replace them.

I actually found that getting a fast weapon that did even LESS damage, but gives me +60% more HP helps some. The +agi doesn't seem to have nearly as much effect after the patch.

I think they did every thing rigth in this patch, trying to balance the game. But the did forget one thing, why ppl play the game and that is cous its funn, running thru a lvl taking on wave after vave and keeping a good speed its what makes it fun atleast if you are playing solo, now you more likely have to team to have a fun time. I think Horific shuld be hard and incurage teaming but the other lvl's shuld be fun and fast for solo playing.

So i hope they rethink what they are doing there is alot of games and what it comes down to is how mutch fun the player is having, sure its subjective, but not being able to solo if you onely have alittle time to play and spending most of the time slowly grinding your way forvard its going to get old fast. And a lower drop rate sure takes away the funn to.

And i think it would be cool if Karl could give some bonus xp for gaining fast xp or numbers of kills/min or some other way, just to incurage players to kill faster.

What is the point of playing a game that is super easy? The entire basis of playing a hack and slash like dungeon runners is the ability to dodge bullets and move/think in real time, thats what seperates it from turn based games.

/sigh

Moving on to boss encounters - I tried Abby several times and was never successful.

Lvl 57 ranger with member gear and 861 max damage at normal speed (purple needle chucker)

Buffed with Trigger, Retribution and Fire Resistance

Everytime I got Abaddon about 1/4 to 1/3 down, he cast that meteor spells AND healed to full - every time...

I went through 2 rows of health pots and finally died when I ran out...

Abby went from ridiculously easy to ridiculously hard. I could barely dent him even though I was buffed to the hilt. That's some bulls**t...

considerding that as a mage i coundn't solo bosses like a warrior could ( or at all ) anyway i could care less about this. What annoys me is that they thought buffing monsters and nerfing all players by a huge amount would make the gun more fun. ACtually by abuseing frost bolt i can solo easiewr than before

With you here. I don't mind a slight increase in difficulty and challenge, but couldn't even dent Agrock tonight and then when we pulled him, he freakin' disappeared and things kept respawning around him. They got another $5 out of me, but got a feeling that will be the last one. I enjoyed the pace and speed of the game before and wouldn't mind it slowing down, but I don't see how I could clear some of the dungeons like I did before.

I think it is quite obvious that the developers had a "shift" of balance in mind from character-favor to slightly more challenging.

However, I think they wrote down all of their ideas and then used all of them in a force majeur of overkill.

Just one of the changes (mob difficulty) would have sufficed to make the game more challenging without reducing the fun.

But literally everything was nerfed - even mythics and purples! Hell, they're all vendor trash now. Mobs run and run and run so that you have 3 and sometimes 4 areas of mobs all piled on you knocking you down over and over and over....

Oh well. I think you all get the point.

as a Ranger, I had to equip a lot more stuff with stamina and almost double my HP to have a chance to survive in The Shadow's Embrace.. That way potions heal a lot more damage and I am not dying faster than the potions can heal.

I think agility for ranger damage got a nasty nerf on top of reducing the damage the weapons do.

Each group of mobs is like firing into a brick wall, takes 10 shots to kill each mob and a lot of patience (and potions) to whittle them down one by one.

My question is, why was all this necessary?

- There is no PVP
- There is no trade system
- There is no economy

Why on earth was there a need to nerf the fun people were having slaughtering monsters? What in the world was so "unbalancing"? This game has like 100 people on at any given time. You would think with such a small fan base they would be encouraging fun instead of swinging the nerf bat so soon.

That's what this game was about, or so I thought. Fun. You know, that thing all other MMORPGs aren't about. Every other game is grinding and competing, people want to come here to blow off steam and destroy hordes of monsters. Not "carefully consider your actions and have more of a challenge evading death" as some other poster put it in another thread.

I just told about a dozen old friends from my WoW guild to sign up last week. Now I feel sort of embarrassed about saying how much fun the game was.

As Stephen has said bosses are meant to be grouped...as it says on the portal now. I've tried abby grouped once me as leader and a lvl 67 warrior...never even got close to takeing him out. His butcher wouldn't knock him down..my stomp had no effect. Its ridiculous. With HDoL yes its still soloable but good lord, i can understanding nerfing rangers...but to this lvl? Its insane...unless there is something i'm completely missing but i doubt it....my mythical is no longer mythical..thought it was supposed to be more mythical...well wait...in terms of other ranged weapons it is i guess...<smirks>. the games biggest appeal to me was the mindless way i could just go in and hack n slash. sure i love challenging things...but to me this patch is making it like the other games i can't stand. now i have to go through trial and error figure out what the best setup is for each area (which yes boohoo i have to think). That wouldn't be so bad but then after that i still have too trudge through at a snails pace to get anywhere. I threw on my fighter gear...his 1h and shield i go through mobs faster and both his 2h he has. on top of that my ranger has 10k and will use the same amount as pots as my warrior with 6k. i pop pots faster with my warrior but destroy the mobs much faster.

I never played DR to group. It was a fun game that I could take as little as 10 minutes and just romp thru bad guys. Grouping is a pain and takes more time than its worth. The big appeal to me for DR was that ability to solo and now its not really an option for the casual player. DR is now becoming something it wasnt...NO FUN!

I agree with the majority of the posts in this thread...too many changes at one time. I've said it before and I'll say it again...patches should come weekly in small doses. That way its easier to make adjustments and keep everyone happy.

I've seen many posts where people were asking for more of a challenge...well, you got your wish...Happy Now?
