Error Connecting to Server.
#16697 - 03/05/07 03:52 AM |
I have seen one post like this that did not get any sort of satisfactory answer. Also, I cannot seem to be able to submit an official tech support flag right now, so this is the best shot I have. Problem: When I try to login (from the first screen) I get the "Connecting to World" message for about 10 minutes, whereupon it turns into "Error Connecting to Server." Points: This is without a firewall running. Other games and programs connect without a problem. This is the only error I can find with anything, and it happens the same every time. Changing to Windowed Mode does not help. Help would be appreciated from anyone who has solved a similar problem. |

I managed to connect successfully to the game once. It just went through like nothing was wrong. All repeated attempts have resulted in the same problem. It's unfortunate there aren't any technical support wizzes around here since this game probably isn't worth the trouble anyway! ![]() |

Quote: Not even Windows Firewall? This type of problem is a network problem, whether it's caused by a firewall not allowing traffic, a router, an ISP, etc... It's almost always on your end or somewhere in between you and the game servers. Are you on a college network, per chance? |

Quote: I believe I was fairly clear on whether or not I had a firewall running. This includes any and all firewalls you can imagine. I am on a college network, but there is no reason that should affect anything because this network doesn't use any packet-shapers and only limits upload bandwidth (i.e. torrents.) I'd consider it unlikely that this is an issue with my network since: 1.) Other games work fine. and 2.) I have connected to the game normally once. |

Quote:Quote: But there is one thing that tells me the problem is on your end. 1.) The other players are not having a problem connecting. Since you are on a college network, you are behind a firewall of sorts that you do not control. I've seen this happen with many college networks and even some ISP's. They do block some ports that are known to have vulnerabilities or in the case of college networks, ports that are commonly associated with P2P file sharing. Since it is a college network I can guarantee you you're not getting a 100% untampered connection. Open a DOS window and type this during your connection attempt: netstat -a note all the connections (IP's) associated with the game as well as the port number(s). Take this info to your college network admins and find out if they are blocking or redirecting ports. |

1) This is definitely caused by the security rules on your college network. 2) Whether or not other games work is irrelevant. They all use different ports and rules. 3) Whether or not you were able to connect once may be irrelevant, since I believe the ports for this game change dynamically. The bottom line is you definitely need to work with the administrators of your college network if you want this resolved. |

"netstat -b" would probably work better if I needed the actual program-port associations. I kinda' already did that. This game does use a different port every time it connects, which means it wouldn't normally (if ever) try a blocked port. I'd like to reiterate that my college network only blocks torrents, and it does that by just screening out any torrent openings and can be easily bypassed by encrypting the torrent. When I said other games work, I mean every other game anywhere in the complex. There haven't been any issues connecting any game, ever. I ran the game by them and they said it should work fine. If ya'll would stop trying to burn my network on a stake and think of a useful idea about something on my computer that might be conflicting with DR (that isn't a firewall or something I already said isn't the problem) I would appreciate it. Thanks for trying to help. |

Probably a dumb question, but are you running PeerGuardian? If you are it blocks traffic to/from nc interactive. |
