Left mouse button Skills
#16667 - 03/04/07 03:10 PM |
It would appear from ingame comments that people are having a problem assigning skills to the left mouse button. From my experience it seems you can only place self buff skills on this button, to do this, open the skill page and right click on the desired skill, then move to the box on the skill bar for the left button, it should turn green, then simply left click. This should assign the skill to the left button. |

I can put any skill there and it seems to work as intended. |

Well, there is a downside to putting some skills there. For ranged damage attacks it will continue to spam your attack and not switch to melee mode till you run out of mana. (not a good setup for a battle mage) And then using Butcher on there is useless if you are out of melee range when you first click it, essentially eating your first Butcher skill cast. When Butcher recharges and your target moves out of range, it will again waste it. |

I was not sure what skills could be used as this came about when I stated that I had 2H on the left button and somebody asked how to do it, hence this thread, so all further input is more than welcome, as long as it helps the community. Thanks to those who have all ready commented and those who comment in the future. Edited by DecardCane (03/05/07 01:01 PM) |

I was thinking that it would help if using hot key skills didn't require the hotkey then click the destination. If by holding down the right mouse button you can place the projectile the trajectory the pointer is at then why not the same result using hotkeys. Hold the hotkey down and move your mouse pointer around. When dealing with cooldowns of about just under 2 seconds or more its not a big deal to have to hotkey click for destination but for those spammable skills the whole hatkey then click is just way to cumbersome. Also the left mouse key also is used to move your character with the point an click so when attacking at range if your holding the button down and your target moves or dies you end up clicking to move as a result. Thus I find using the left mouse button skill slot pointless except for a way to draw less aggro. |

I find the left mouse button skill useful for the 2H skill that I use it for as I use the cursor keys to move around |

Since I often use Shift-Leftclick to fire into melee (it allows you to miss-click and not go running into melee range, which is bad news as a ranger) I haven't found any skills that are practical on the leftclick toolbar slot. Attack skills spam, draining your mana, meaning you have no mana for AOE's when the enemy gets close. Buffs cast at all the wrong times, using up there duration and then they're on cooldown when you need them... The right click is easy enough to use, whatever your main offensive special is, poison shot or fire ball or cleave or butcher. But the left click is a persistent problem for me. |

For those who have a mouse with more than two buttons, which is most every one, I think it'd be a neat add-on to allow the other mouse button clicks to be utilized. |

Same for me, I just use Shadow Lightning once it comes back up from cooldown, since it's not spammable. And sometimes when the enemy's health is low, I'll spam left click and it'll use Shadow Lightning + Melee, just for fun. |

Just some random thougts on this problem... Some mouse programs/drivers allow the extra buttons to be set to normal keyboard buttons (CTRL, ALT etc) - it might be worth looking at ACTUALLY INSTALLING that mouse software you got with it (I only ever have once, out of about 12 mice I've had in my gaming life - and thats where I saw this feature) so that you could - set the extra mouse buttons to unused keyboard buttons - bind those unused keyboard keys to the powers you want - hopefully hey presto you can use other mouse buttons on the mouse Apologies if this doesnt work...came to me @ work while I was reading this thread. Stay tuned and I'll try to update this with my progress. Also...anyone remember the Diabloclicker? My mouse finger could use that. Might try looking that up as well |

As a fighter I've been using Soul Rend on my left click for some time. For right click I prefer something with knockdown--tried smackdown and butcher, but it seems that Holy Roller has the best combination of low recharge time and high chance to kd. |

Now allowing us to use buttons 4 and 5 is different I haven't tried to configure mine for DR yet but your mouse program should allow you to make them mimic another key like Shift so you can get some utility out of them. |

[quote i had the same problem until i realized that any given skill can only appear on the skill bar ONCE. if you have, say, fireball in the 3rd slot on the skill bar, you cant ALSO put it on the left mouse button. or the right mouse button. or anywhere else, for that matter. [/quote] This is the reasions ppl cant put a skill on left click. I have SL on the bar (1) and cant put it on Left click. Then I tried Posion Blast (same problem, hotkey 2). Ill fix this when I get home. Thanks -------------------- =//Sanity is just the denial of chaos//= |

I just leave it blank and use it for the bog standard attack, currently the right is Soul Rend and 1) Righteous Stomp (is that right?) and 2) Cleave Other's are just the warrior Passive's you start with, i'm only level 10 so that's it for me at the moment. |

I run a 2 handed weapon with cleave on the left button. I always attack the boss or the ranged units first and the cleave kills the fodder for me. |
