The EULA
#16650 - 03/04/07 04:21 AM |
I had an extended discussion with other people on world one a couple nights ago and most seem to think this issue isn't that big a deal. I have to say though, requiring users to accept the EULA with every login is a major pain in my opinion. 1. The EULA is a binding document. Accepting it during registration is all that is required for the company and the user to know that there are conditions on the user's use of the product and that the user has accepted those conditions. 2. If the EULA changes, modify the flag indicating that it has been accepted so that the user is required to accept it again. 3. If you feel the need for users to be aware of the EULA at all times, add some text to the login indicating that use of the product indicates our acceptance of your usage policies and the license agreement. Also add a link to the document so that people that like to read the document every time are free to do so. Yes, it is "only one click". I agree that it isn't a great burden. But it is also totally unnecessary to force users to accept a license agreement every time that they log in. I can think of no legal or code construction justification that requires this kind of end user experience. |

I believe that is a butt-covering tactic. Notice we have to agree to it before we even login? So before we're even identified, we have to agree before we even touch the game. What if it was recorded that your IP number has agreed to the EULA, then you let a friend try out Dungeon runners, and they had no idea about the EULA? (I know this is a stretch, but people claim this crap in court.) I think it's also a good little reminder that there are other people behind those avatars, and to be courteous. Aaaaannnnnnnddd that's all I can think of. ![]() -------------------- Jouselle Runs Dungeons Edited by Jouselle (03/04/07 09:25 AM) |

Sorry, but EVERY game I play requires EULA acceptance every time you log in. It is a legal issue, by law they need to have it, or so other game companies have said. Maby it's just an American law issue. Maby Canada, Europe, Australia, ect. don't have to deal with the same legal bindings. |

Well, I can guarantee it won't be changed. Some of the other games that don't require it on every time their game is started is obviously still in the dark ages and not legally protected as well. Just knowing what kind of legal day and age we live in right now is enough to know this EULA is necessary. Suggesting anything less would be naive at best. |

Quote: Well, not every MMO requires you to go through the EULA every single time you logon. Like WoW for example, which only re-displays whenever it's changed, forcing you to re-accept it. |

Ya, I got tired of all the clicking and what not so I borrowed my old macro app from Asheron's Call. It loads the NC launcher, accepts the EULA, types my password, logs me into World 1, and immediately sets "Close Group" upon entering the world. |

Well I feel silly, I play them both too...I guess I'm so used to seeing a EULA, that I see them in my head for those games or something...wierd. The tricks a mind can play on you. I wanna see visions of sugarplumms, not visions of EULAs, dancing in my head. o.O |
