Dungeon Runner Lore
#16611 - 03/03/07 12:15 AM

What is the background of the Dungeon Runner land? Who was the King? How did he die?

I'm very curious about these sort of things... Does anyone know the answer to these questions or have questions to add to mine?

Water Colors mixed with Paper Mache.

The people of the land are split on this. Some villagers believe it was Elvis. These villagers are fools, as anyone knows the REAL king was Bruce Campbell.

Quote:

How did he die?

He didn't die. He faked his death, and now wanders around the Kingdom trying to controll the rage within him.

It was Godzilla, the lizard king. He was boiled to death in the sea of Japan while he was on vacation there. Unfortunately Dungeon Runners did not get the copy rights in time so they can't use his name or likeness, but we do have all his monster children running rampant through the kingdom undisciplined.

If you're being sarcastic then you should know it's too bad I can't read sarcasm.. I actually want serious answers.

I'm not even going to try to talk some sense into you...

Now then.. Back on topic?

You may be trying to turn DR into something it just isn't. What you thought to be sarcasm seems to be just humor. At least it made me laugh.

If you want guilds, lore, roleplaying, etc. etc., then, at least for now, you may want to try a MMORPG.

Serious answer: There is none.

And if you asked me I'd say: Thank God for that!

You've said a couple times that you can't read sarcasm... and that's ok, but maybe because of that the humor, the feel, the ideal of DR has been wasted on you. And, don't get me wrong, that's not a remark on your person at all, I'm just saying.

DR is supposed to be, to a great extent, satirical.

adios,

Nope, not sarcasm. Although it wasn't a serious answer, either, because there IS no background information on DR. As Shaun pointed out, it was simply a humorous response that I attempted to give you in the vein of Dungeon Runners humor.

That was an extremely informed response. DR has none of the seriousness or bling of other games. It does not have the overhead and fantasy crap that makes other games into big productions. It has however retained the fun parts. the hacking and slashing, the chatting, the loot.

If this was a satire of city of heroes I'd fully expect to have a beach towel tied around my neck for a cape and to run around with my arms outstretched making swoosh sounds with my mouth.

Somebody give this man a job on the dev team, this is brilliant!

And now, for the real answer. This is from the interview with Stephen:

Quote:

Will you be developing a detailed background to expand the story of Dungeon Runners?

Storyline isn't a huge part of Dungeon Runners because at this point it is mostly about bashing monsters and collecting loot. Although, there are definitely story elements that unfold in the quest lines that you complete as you play. But, it's not something that we're clubbing players on the head with.

No story for you! (At least beyond the quests)

Dungeon Runners and Lore mix like water and oil. The story is whatever you want it to be.

For example, using LiquidX's reply, if Elvis was the King, I'd be an assassin who's quest was to assassinate the King. If Bruce Campbell was King, I'd likely be a door-to-door Old Spice salesman.

Personally, I'd like to think Loremaster Vraile is secretly the King, but has caught amnesia and now thinks he's James Bond. And late at night he sneaks away to Agrock's Gauntlet 5 to shack up with Gypsy Sally. But don't tell him that you heard it from me.

You know if you read some of the dialogue in the quests in-game LiquidX's responses would fit right in with the in game lore 0.o;;

There are no serious answers in this game that doesn't take itself seriously (in a super funny good way).

You people seem to be making things up for dungeon runners as you go along, are you sure they arent going to make a story when the game gets some more content, ect..? or have they specifically stated this is gonna be a totally humorous, storyless shell of a game.

Somebody above me posted a quote from Stephen that came from this interview on mmorpg.com:

Interview with Stephen Nichols

In this interview, he clearly states "Storyline isn’t a huge part of Dungeon Runners..."

If the price is right, you can buy the rights to the storyline. Stephen posted a message on the beta boards (damn board wipe!) that players could, for a price, name items, dungeons, monsters etc... It's not too much of a stretch to assume that the story of the game is for sale as well.

For the right amount of scratch, Bruce Campbell really could be the King of Dungeon Runners.

Ummmm I just wanted to end the theories of a clash between Elvis and Bruce Campbell and state, for the record, it IS Bruce Campbell. He became king of the Land as a reward for his work in "Bubba Hotep" as pictured here:
