why'd you pick fighter?
#15458 - 02/17/07 05:40 PM

Fighter is my favorite because I like to get up close and hit stuff! ^_^ I have a hard time with spells too, and after you fire the first couple shots, you're fighting the monsters up close anyways. That's my logic. I just wanna go in there and hit stuff!

But I'm not a very serious gamer. I'm very interested why the serious gamers pick fighters, and the not-so-serious players too.

My first D&D experience was as a mage. Ever since then, I've had a preference for tanks.

My latest D&D character is a chaotic neutral human cleric who is insanely cheerful all the time. The fighter hated her from the moment they met.

It's the most straightforward of all classes. Like Mura said- everybody ends up fighting toe-to-toe anyway. Might as well be the best dressed at the dance.
While a fighter can spend as much time as any other class fussing over his build, his biggest concern in life need only be finding a bigger sword (or axe or whathaveyou).
Ah, the zen-like simplicity of hitting people with sharp things. Or heavy things.. or spiky things.. Or heavy, sharp, spiky things, for preference.

Meh I chose it 'cause my bro is running a mage and we always party. I am sure 2 pure INT mages goes well for kill it before it kills you kinda thing but decided to opt out and be the tank.

So yea basically I am the damage sponge that keeps my mage from dying... Also I am pretty strong to boot.

I picked fighter because in Lineage my mains were elf and mage. In Guild Wars my mains are ranger, necro, and monk. So I wanted to try something different. Fighter is a pretty fun class in this game.

Why choose a fighter? Because there is much enjoyment to be found when you follow these simple rules.

That guide is precious. I especially loved the flow-chart with the instructions to cut it out before you use it.

I love to be a Rogue. Dual wielding, fast weapons.
While all classes can do this, Warriors have useful traits for this. Ranged damage, or Spell damage don't really help me out.

Umm... fastest learning curve usually. Soloing a fighter is easy to learn. Already wanting to make a mage... but thats after I hit 100.

But it is so hard for me to build a good mage. I built one good one in Diablo 2 LOD and beat the game. After that I kinda got tired of them and decided to try fighter. I found that for solo , games are built much more towards fighters

I do love my level 17 fighter though. He is really putting on the whammy with the Hammer he carries around. With Soul Rend and Cleave he does really clean up. +2str , +1ag , +1end a level.

I figured since its a new game and all and I wasn't sure if mages, and rangers would come with a cost.. so I chose fighter. Do I regret my choice that is still to be seen

Well there's a few things nice about fighters:
-Massive HP - They don't need to worry about their health going down faster than they can drink potions.
-Massive DPS - They do more damage than any other class.
-Ability to farm - Who doesn't like loot? Anyone up for rainbows and millions of gold?

I picked fighter because I was tired of swallowing health pots.

Then I realized it took longer to kill the mobs so I was drinking just as many pots.
Needless to say, I respecced my once-fighter in a hurry.

Not sure what game you are playing Zubin but fighters are far from the highest DPS. That title would go to pure INT mages hands down.

I wouldn't say we've the most HP either, I know I have had to take much of my END (no way am I gonna touch str!) and dump it into Agi to get a decent hit rate. In fact, my current build has no points to END (But a decent amount in gear) and seems to do alright, although I can tell as I progress it will need changing. At lvl 21 I take down Vergrim pretty well, usually only takes 6-10 pots, depending how well my resists work. That's with about 2100hp @ 21.

I have leveled off around 10-13K depending on my equipment. At higher levels you will have to take from your strength in order to continue to hit. There are other threads covering the sacrifices we made with the latest patch in order to keep hitting things.

I was hoping what I said was wrong, I just needed someone to confirm what Eldritch said <_<
I'm thinking pure strength warrior versus pure int mage in pvp, hopefully pvp will be tweaked a bit...
Some advice:
For every two days of leveling, farm one day

I have a secondary character that's a warrior with membership since membership is extremely cheap <_<, warriors are decent fun at low levels from what I've seen(level 1-22)

I knew there was a reason I have you on ignore.

BTW a pure strength fighter is useless at this point because they will rarely hit anything, especially at higher levels. My current build has around 550 str and 350 agi, and with an AR of 5500 I still miss some.

Thanks for adding that wonderful and insightful tidbit to this discussion...

When I was playing a fighter, dual-wielding pretty much wasn't an option... could never find two with decent stat boosts.
A hammer works so well for those Whisker Shamans anyway... Smack, smack, smack.
