+% (elemental damage) or +dps?
#15435 - 02/17/07 03:52 AM |
I asked this once in-game, and I was told that +dps is preferable to +% (I believe it was Ibalaki who answered). anyone have a definitive answer why? I've been loading up on +% gear (I currently have +9% to fire damage), and I'd like to know if I should change tack. and if you can answer that, can you also tell me what the equivalence is? i.e. how much +dps does +1% damage roughly equal to? from switching out equipment at lv 36, I came to a very rough estimate that +1% roughly equals 8 dps. of course this could be way off. it seems that +1% damage should be more important at higher levels than a fixed dps (the higher your base damage, the higher 1% of that number will be). and...for the love of Gosh, why don't spells crit!?!?!eleventyseven! just some things I was pondering. ![]() -------------------- Athlon64 3000+, ATI X800Pro, WD Raptor 74GB, 1 GB Mushkin HP3200 2x512 , WinXP Pro SP2 |

Well it depends of your level I think. I use +% mod in my armor because I can have +6% with a lv80 armor. but with Shoulders, boots, gloves scepter etc YOu find +1% (now I have +2%) and the +dps mod is way better. But you don't make a choice just find gear with +% mod and +dps mod ![]() I don't think we need spells crit, but an other resist system. Right now resists don't decrease dmg but give you a chance to resist the spell (no dmg)? I would prefer +/- dmg depending on resist. -------------------- Sorry for my English, I am French ![]() |

should be fairly easy to figure out the % increase before you equip it check what your damage range is for whatever spell you look at and then just add the +whatever% of that damage to it. at low lvls i wouldn't use the %. for instance +2% on 1k damage is only +20dps but if when you start getting higher damages it should be worth it. plus been thinking...i know that int helps with poison damage. i believe it should do the same with divine....the fighters soul rend does some tremendous damage right now with relatively low int my ranger could do over 4k in divine damage. might be usefull when forced in melee with something. possibly the bosses that some seem to have problems with. though i haven't tried it at all besides with my ranger in fighter gear. whats everyone else think of it....and does the mana steal work with spells or just the weapon damage....thought it might work with spell damage too considering i've come across some armour that has it too....and obviously armor doesn't do any actual weapon damage. |

i think i read before than the -steal- skills only apply to -melee dmg up close..not on magic |

I wouldn't mind seeing int helping with divine damage some, but only to a certain extent it would make stomp better overall for mages and some of the warrior skills more usable as mages plus it would make using mage aoe spells a little more do able for fighters or rangers too. |

ok thought i understood exactly what you were saying then reread and am not so sure. int does help with divine damage, as it does with poison and the mage spells. Stomp is useless for a damage aoe....its real use is the knockback. which even mobs over 10 lvls under me resist stomp frequently (champs and sometimes heros) bosses nearly always resist. the thing that keeps rangers and fighters from really using mage aoe with any frequency is mana cost. |

The need for +% "damage" is scaled with your levels. The higher level, would mean the better damage gear, which again would mean more +damage from your +% "damage" gear. Mixing and trixing is the key to get a good allround gear. Personally I wouldnt bothered with +% until level 80-100, since most of your gear in the end will consist of no less quality and stats. |

They removed Dmg Mod (+%) from armor since last patch, rings and staff max at 5% now (instead of 3%). Dmg mod was a purple mod now it has been replaced for a Simple Dmg bonus. Now Yellow pieces of armor and Purple pieces of armor are exactly the same. A lv100 purple has the same bonus as a lv100 yellow (with same mods). -------------------- Sorry for my English, I am French ![]() |
