Does Movement Speed affect spellcasting?
#15108 - 02/13/07 03:50 PM

Sorry for the noob question (today is my first day playing) but is magic casting affected by movement speed? I see a lot of armor that has a speed penalty but high defense. Is that a bad idea for a mage?

thanks..

It doesn't affect spellcasting, maybe it should because when you look it's pretty useless ... We may suggest this because warrior/ranger can increase their attack speed.

As a mage, I try to stay away from armour with any kind of a movement penalty just because there is so much armour to be found without a penalty and usually with + intellect. Leave the - movement to the warriors!

It makes a big difference for kiting and avoiding ranged attack and spell casting mobs, but other than that it doesn't do much. Just the same it's good for my mage build since I'm pure int for the higher dps.

I did a little test in beta when I played a mage. I had a set of high defense, low movement equipment, and a set of low defense, high movement equipment. It really is amazing how much quicker you move (kiting as they call it) out of the reach of monster attacks to strike again. The +int stats that generally come with it is a bonus.

Even as a Fighter now, I often ditch high defense, low movement equipment if I can find something reasonably close with decent mobility.

Good topic!
