After dying alot to this guy and finally figuring out a way to kill him (read : farm) I figured I'd post it.

1. Do not attack or aoe any of the rats. That is why they explode and stun you, usually leading to death.

2. Ignore the elite guards, they dont hit hard enough to have to kill them first and besides, if vergrim manages to win they just respawn.

3. Use speed buff and the attack speed buff. Have Butcher on LMB.

4. Go right for Vergrim, if you can, stomp on the two elite guards so they dont stun you with thier first attack. Spam heals in between butchers and you should be able to keep him knocked down often enough to win.

5. Clean up the rest of the mobs after he dies, feel free to use AE skills.

6. If you get vergrim to half life and he manages to get lucky and kill you..he's already spawned about 15 more rats so the best thing to do is just reset the dungeon and try again fresh.

He seems to hit pretty hard, what type of elemental damage does he do?

I should add that, if a rat does start getting big, heading for an explosion, you can either Righteous Stomp just before he blows to get him away from you, or kill him before he blows, both ways, you won't get exploded on.

As of tonight, #2 is no longer accurate.

When I fought Vergrim, it took me about 5 tries through the hellacious lag spikes. I had to take each guard down, then go after Vergrim. Nothing respawned throughout the series.

I think the respawn happens if you dont drop an actual waypoint before hand. Theres a difference i think between a fresh waypoint, and the saved level on the obelisk.

A lot of boss fights are made easier with the right resistance buff. Remember you can get all of them. I usually keep fire, shadow, and poison on the hotkey bar. For Vergrim, Devine resistance made a big difference.

thank you thank you thank you :p I was wondering what elemental damage he did lol Now it should be pretty easy....well easier....let's say less Headaches :)

And I usually take care of the elite guards first then concentrate on Vergrim. The only anoying thing is when he keeps knocking me down and his rats bite on my legs...I mean c'mon atleast fight fair and allow me a free swing b4 the chewing begins :)

Hi all,
just fyi
after reading this i expected a hard fight.
I buffed with fire-resi and 2h-swivel (speedup) and concentrated on Vergrim only.
Took me 4-5 healpots and he was down in about 30-45 seconds.
Only a few non exploding rats around me and i ignored his 2 helpers.
Did this with a grandma-speed 2h-weap and with lvl 22.
Greetings,
Bhogan

This was all posted pre-patch. He seems to have gotten much easier.

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but after digging through the boards for info on Vergrim, I've come across some conflicting info.

In the Players guides section there is a post by Iblaki that states Vergrims magic dmg as Divine. I see here the original poster echoes this. DocSnuggle two posts above me, however, seems to use Fireresist to combat Vergrim.

So, anyone know with certainty which resist it is? Can't afford at the moment to buy em both

You have to look at the dates from the posts and understand that the bosses have evolved through the patches. The devs like to mix it up and give us some surprises when the new patches come out. For the most part Iblaki's boss guide is very accurate but I think a few things may have changed with the most current update. When reading posts older than a month or 2 old you do need to be careful because a lot of the information in them may be outdated.

Suggestion for Vergrim:
Have a 3:2 ratio of strength to end and start soloing around level 22-25.
