If you are having connection problems, read this
#11321 - 12/21/06 02:57 PM |
This post is an attempt to consolidate information about connection problems with the PlayNC Launcher. This was last updated on 4/30/07. Things to check before posting or sending a log file: 1) Make sure you are running the latest version of the launcher. This comes with the newest Dungeon Runners installer at ftp://ftp.dungeonrunners.com/DungeonRunnersSetup.exe 2) Make sure to allow the Launcher to get through your firewall. Windows XP Service Pack 2 comes with a firewall and you may have to add the launcher to the exceptions list. (Start->Control Panel->Windows Firewall) 3) Proxy servers have sometimes been known to cause issues with the Launcher. Also, if Internet Explorer is configured to use proxies when you don't actually use one, this can cause a problem. To guarantee you are not using a proxy, in Internet Explorer, go to “Tools->Internet Options->Connections Tab->Lan Settings” and make sure that all of the boxes are unchecked. 4) If you live in Turkey and experience issues please review the following information. If you see the following error: "A file is not in the expected state, and it cannot be repaired: game\quests\Templates\Quest_KillDrop_3_Mob_3_Item.gc" Shut down the Launcher. Then, change their regional language settings to English. Start->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options->(Change dropdown box from Turkish to English). Then, start the Launcher and patch Dungeon Runners. After you've patched, you can change your regional settings back to Turkish. Unfortunately, you'll have to do this until the next version of the Launcher is released. 5) Contact PlayNC Tech Support. Many connection issues are specific to your operating system and hardware setup and it can be difficult for us to figure out these issues out on the forum. You can submit a ticket here http://help.plaync.com/cgi-bin/plaync.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php Also please do post other details about your setup if you know them, such as if you're behind a router/firewall, what your operating system is, etc. If you don't know these details, that's fine. We'll get you up and running! Edited by Crickette (04/30/07 11:48 AM) |

My version is 1.0.6.0 I run update before playing, and I get disconnected EVERY single moment of the evening when im on. I have a cable broadband connection with downstream of 10MB/sec, on an amplified RG-59 Silver - Core line. I can remain online for about 5 minutes at a time, then everything stops, and I get disconnected form the server. My ISP connection is stable at all times during this, as I have used a network monitor to track my connection. My rig is an Athlon 64 3700+ running at 2.3 GHZ, 2 GB Corsair Platinum heatsink ram, Abit SLi An8 MB, with a Geforce 7900 GT. I am running Windows XP, and have no antivirus nor spyware programs running during play. If I can't play then I will cancel my sub, as theres no reason to pay for something I can't play. I've been patient and have tried everything from the forums as well as the NC support site, and nothing works at all. Someone tell me what's missing b4 I go back to playing something other than this. |

Firewall Issues? Just add Dungeon Runners to your firewall settings to allow it through. I don't think it's a wise move on part of NCsoft to recommend you lower your system's security to play a game. In my case, Norton Internet Security, I just added the DungeonNCLauncher.exe file, which can be found paralell to the DungeonRunner.exe main game executable. One annoying thing though... When you launch the game for the first time without the adjusted firewall settings and you reach the game login screen, you're stuck. I would recommend allowing users to use "alt+ENTER" or any other way to escape back into the desktop. In my case, after attempting to login and my firewall blocking the game, I was unable to even press the EXIT button and ended up having to restart my system to escape. I've now learned that pressing ALT+F4 repeatedly will indeed force-close the game. -- there's still some work left to do |

Hello, This does not seem to be a launcher specific problem, as it sounds like you are losing connection to the in-game server. In that case, you might find better help in the Bugs and Technical issues forum. http://boards.dungeonrunners.com/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=DungeonRunnersBugsandTechnicalIssues Also, I don't mean to recommend that you lower security settings on your computer. I mention it as a diagnostic step to temporarily do so just to make sure that other software is not causing a connection problem. |

Quote: WTF turn off firewalls and anti-app software - why not tell people if their seat belt in the car is too tight to drive with it off while they travel at 180Kms per hour into oncomming traffic or better yet, turn off your netbox, firewall and any protection on your end and see what happens. Sorry to jump down on you but that is a very poor answer to connection issues, and you should word it better where if anyone is having issues to maybe try it tempoarily without a firewall to eliminate if thats a cause and then seek support in that area but turn it back on when done. Quote: Yep yep yep, had similar issueson the first startup where it took a while to load and then just sat there. I am in no mood to tinker on ports on my router as thats too extreme for a game and when you think about basics, you can often find the issue is local to the pcs software. For me, my issue was AVG had not added the dungeonrunner.exe'S to the "Allow" exceptions but had added PlayNC - meh go figure - so manually adding the executeables (NOT turning off the firewall or anti-apps) made the game run first time. And I didnt need to compromise my security by disabling anything. Anyways, thats my 2c after my first day on DR. Cheers -------------------- <<This Space for Rent>> |

I have done everything suggested to make this puppy run and nothing has seemed to work. Sometimes I'm stuck after selecting a world, sometimes I get into an empty room, and sometimes I just sit after log in. Since I have a GEforce card, I guess I will just uninstall the game and try it again later when the bug that's giving it fits gets fixed (or my card blows up and I get another). I have no problems adding info to the config or setting my security to let the game and ncsoft have their way with my machine, but after that it's just too much to mess with... |

One thing not mentioned originally that I ran into the other day was the usage of host-blocking applications like PeerGaurdian. While they act kind of like a firewall, it only blocks connections to black-listed hosts. Apparently NC Interactive is included in PeerGaurdian's P2P block list. You can unblock them by making your own allow-list and allow traffic to the IP addresses from 206.127.144.0 to 206.127.159.255. -------------------- Sys: P4 HT 2.4Ghz,ATI Radeon X800 XL 256mb,1gb dual-ddr ram,80gb drive,Creative Audigy Platinum,1440x900 LCD monitor. |
