Looking for some feedback on guilds
#55824 - 04/23/08 07:29 PM

OK all you Guild leaders and wannabe leaders. I want to hear how you go about recruiting other members to your guild. Are there any in-game or Web based tools you wish you had to make things easier in that regard?

I have some ideas on the subject, but I want to hear from you first before I "spoil" the feedback.

Hola MarkT and thank you for taking an Interest with Guilds.

First thing that would make it easier to recruit would be the ability to Copy Web Pages into Text. That way I could give someone a direct Link to my web page. Right now its a little bit of a hassle either have to send them to boards or try to type the big long name in Chat.

Some Form of Guild Recognition would be great. Ie name guild Names above yourself or even a Cloak that would signafy certian guilds from each other.

Contact with some Major Guild Hosting websites and letting them know that DR is going to be guilded and having them set up templates or somethign to that nature for ease of use with DR. For example I use Guild Portal web hosting and it is not compliant with DR closest they have is Dungeon and Dragons.

Thats all I have atm. I hope that others will chime in with more.

Cool. I was thinking along the same lines.

I think this is cool too. A Guild name over a player's head is very doable. It is highly unlikely that we are able to get cloaks into the game on our first pass, but it (or something along those lines) is on the list.

Excellent feedback! I am looking into this right now.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Keep those ideas coming!

1) Please make a separate guild recruitment channel. Anybody looking for a guild could turn that channel on, whereas anybody not looking or already in a guild could turn it off. Based on my experience in other games, I'd rather not see /w suddenly inundated with guild spam.

2) Give players the ability to create text macros. This way, guild leaders could create recruitment, new member welcoming and raid announcement macros.

3) Create a toggle to allow/disallow blind guild invites

4) Create a mechanism to allow/enforce official guild alliances and enemies. Trading and whispering would prohibited amongst enemy guilds. Allow chaotic no-holds-barred death match guild wars in PVP for enemy guilds.

5) Get your darn fansite kit up so that guild leaders have easier access to better art for their websites!

I just want to add a little bit in case my thoughts aren't implied or wouldn't be thought to implemented along with the feature.

1- Great Idea, no further suggestions.

2- Great idea, just so long as ONLY the guild leaders and officials can use this feature, with very strict misuse penalties. We don't need those numbskulls that are already spamming world and even personal messages with the powerlevel/looting crap, able to just macro it in. Keep this channel logged and monitored for the same reason, and this will discourage hostile and vulgar conversation between guilds and or their members on that channel.

That was the main thing, i'm sure that the restrictions on who gets to use macros would be put in anyways, but who knows.

3- Agreed

4- The 3rd sentence, nay, I think that would hurt the overall community at least in the beginning, causing rifts. I don't see more than a hand full of guilds popping up for the first 6 months or so, no more than a dozen really. The population is to small for much more than that to be sustained. Not everyone is going to join the guild. Competition and friendly rivalry is good.

But if i'm getting what this is suggesting right, i don't think a guild member should be disallowed to trade or talk to a rival/"enemy" guild member, simply because of that fact. Maybe a guild "ignore" for the guild channel, but not in general, and I don't see a problem not trading something from the guild bank, But not individual players.

Guild alliances/enemies(rivals, or whatever) good, prohibition bad.

Yes allow for guild warring, lager groups(can only have guild members in group) set limit to say, 10, maybe 15, but bandwidth might need to be increased server side. But heck i could be wrong, thats not my area of expertise. Only other problem I could think of there, is user bandwidth, thats going to be a problem for larger groups.

5- Yes please!

As for my ideas...mounts maybe(ducks for flamage, NOT LIKE WOW, I know thats the first thing that came to your heads:p) not really a guild thing completely, but maybe something that 2-4 players could hop on to get to the other end of the arena faster. "The monster truck of uber awesomeness" idk, maybe a giant slug or snowman for that matter. Could actually be a skill that could be used for a support class, has a 60-90 second duration and 180 second cool down. Some have said that creating a support/healer class would put focus to much on groups and make it to hard to play solo. I say poo to you, it would give groups more dynamics to play with.

The support class could be mostly based of mages, intel for mana and skill power and such. Offensive skills could be Divine based. We can brainstorm on all that later.

Here's the catch though, this classes skills could only be used for guild and pve group scenarios. BUT it should be disabled for regular pvp matchs, ie max group 5 in pwnston. That way the people that solo in pvp can have a fair game, and not have to fight 3 on 1, with a healer keeping em healthy. Only guild pvp matches, and pve grouping(or soloing, if someone feels the need to train or quest with it). Went slightly off topic there, but it all stems from guild play ideas.

That being said and in writing another idea has come to mind.

Guild pvp world or town, only for guild matches. I think a whole world would be best. Nothing fancy at first, don't need to make any new world material(ie whole new town structure) that could be added later( like pwnston changed in the last heave).

Before we get a toggle for allowing or disallowing guild invites, we need a toggle for allowing or disallowing trades.

there is a site just for guilds to make webpages the only one that comes to mind is www.guildcafe.com it may be some help for clan leaders to recruit and get established. If an admin. reads this i got 2 questions.
1) can we get a guild insigna to put on a cape... ?
2) any chance they may add houses or clan halls down the road?

We definitely want to see something like that, but we want to have more basic support for guilds available soon (to which we'll add more, over time).

Hahaha, the fun in developing those houses... You should make different houses depending of how big the guild is, how powerful it is (counting levels or so) and so on. Like, the new guild, low in power, could have an outhouse only, and it'll grow from there.
