Remort can only happen once, and even a remorted lvl 20 wont have any special powers

will only have 20 skil pts to be almost honest

Remember that a remort system is completely optional - if a player doesn't want to remort and chooses to stay at a normal level 100 he can do so for as long as he wishes. Remorting just gives the player a chance to make their character even better by giving them access to new skills/items/attribute points.

Regarding the example of epic items, I'm just throwing out the idea of a new item-line that is remort only. They don't necessarily HAVE to be better than rainbows, but should be good enough to be another incentive for players to remort.

In reponse to Wanderingsoul's post, while I completely agree remorting is no substitute for adding new dungeons/content, I'm not convinced that remorting can be compared to creating a new character to play over again. Basically you are making your level 100 even more powerful by having access to a new system that is only achieveable in the end-game. So while the game is "recycling" dungeons, players are still getting a new experience the second time around with all the perks of being a remort. Also, I think it would be a simple matter of making dungeons scale appropriately to a remorted character to keep the difficulty factor prevalent. But remember remorts also need double the xp of normal characters, which is pretty difficult in itself.

In the PVP example of the remort level 20 taking on a group of normal level 20's....well remember that remort player went through 120 levels of the game so in effective he is a level 120 character and should definitely have an advantage.

Advantage in PvP, dont think of that, thats far from good.

I do find it not really cool to let players level even more for more content, limit players content to what their level is isnt that good, it counts for dungeons, but certainly does not for quests, skills and items, atleast not that much as for a remort system. While I still find it a clever outcome I dont think the game would get better because of it. MORE leveling for more content, and next to that, maybe the dungeons are already boring? And giving people advantages on ALL kind of ways because they are higher level is bad.

Having played MUDs for years, I've grown to utterly despse Remort systems. The idea of have 'uber-newbs' was a nice idea on paper, but it doesn't provide the player with any new content they wouldn't get by creating a new character. It likewise requires deliate balancing as the duengeons must account for both normal levels and uber-newb levels. Don't even get me started on what happens in PVP when a remorted lv 20 player wanders into a group of normal level 20s. That's an extra 20 stat points. I'd much rather see higher level dungeons than having to re-mash algrenon in an already-established character

I totally agree with this view, after starting a new character I'm remembering how much time it takes to gain levels... Also as said above, this would unbalance PvP to no end, If after I remort and dont like it am I screwed? can I morph back into a lvl 100 at will if grinding exp gets old?

In a nut shell: it's not a good thing, If I wanted to re-play the game I would make another character (which I've done) I want to see new content not reruns.

an idea to put out would be to have a level cap based on your total character lvls.
for instance:
If you have one lvl 100 the max lvl is 100.
If you have two 100s the cap is lvl 125
if you have 3 then the cap is 150

so to play through to lvl 150 you would
  • Get one character to 100
  • Get a second character to 100
  • Level a 3rd character to 100
  • level all the characters to lvl 150...

Some downsides would be PvP being thrown into chaos and long-playing 100s who have farmed there hearts out for the best gear finding that they have to start grinding / farming again.

As I said I would rather see new content not reruns, also something interesting I heard about was that Stephen said there would be upgradeable weapons (I think for kings coins) That could really give 100s something to do, I just hope it's done right...

Like I said, it's not a substitute for new content. But instead of forcing the devs to create just new content for levels 100+, lower-level dungeons can be added as well that remorted characters can experience (remort-only dungeons anyone?). How many MMOs out there completely ignore the low-level community because the majority is high-level? There have been plenty of times I'd like to experience a low-level area that was added after I had reached max-level in a game. Is the only alternative to force players to create a new character? And in DR, is there a point/advantage of creating a new character since you can change stats/skills on a whim and you aren't specifically tied to any particular class?

Also, what I'm gathering is the idea of having to level anymore after level 100 is a bad thing. To remain successful, DR and any other MMO cannot remain static and have a "Beat the Game" point whereby you reach max level and all you do is farm equipment. Usually, High-level content goes hand-in-hand with a higher level cap.

I think any system that forces players to create NEW characters in order to progress another character is a terrible mistake, and basically goes against the basic idea of an RPG -> Kill stuff, Get stuff, Level up, Better Character -> Kill harder stuff, Get better stuff, Level up, Better character, etc etc

I think this idea is excellent and and properly proposed, as ripper said, with details and a comprehensive explanation. I think, like most suggestions, it needs to be "tweaked" to fit the bill of DR correctly, but I wouldn't be past the idea of having to be an "uber-noob" and get new skills and a whole new possible set of items.
Thumbs up!

I guess now all the devs have to do is get all the content and dungeons finished to lvl 100 and they can start all over rehashing the existing dungeons a bit! Looks like no sleep for you guys, lol!

disclaimer: The last paragraph made in honest jest at the devs and in no way questions their programming ability, etc. Please dont reset my chars to lvl 1 again and take away all my rbws.

There could even be remort only quests hiding in the dungeons, a remort difficulty level increase (ala grouping), and as for pvp you could have the remort extra points go away at the same time everyone is balanced to level 101. Heck you could even have a couple of secret remort only side dungeons. I think that this idea is def worth a good look.

So instead of lv 100+ dungeons we'd have dungeons only accessible by players over level 100 (remorted)? That's not much of a difference. And how does the computer decide which stat points to remove for PVP?

Interesting question. What IF when you log to the PVP server you automatically have the "morted" extra points removed and you go right to the respec window with no to adjustment cost? I will be the first to admit that this would/could open a bad window, but just an idea.

the same way the game decides which stats to boot to 101.
Also not "whole" dungeons just a secret side level or two.
