The Ad Window of destruction.
#20985 - 05/16/07 03:05 PM

Why just a ad on the loading screen for non-paying players? Why not a whole frame around the screen of tasteful yet annoying ads? To make them want to subscribe , or instead of the subscription fee.

It may seem like a tasteless and sellout thing to do. We realize though that you are hear to make money , and how better than through advertising. If people don't want to see the ads then they can pay a subscription fee to not see them.

Our plan is to have ads on the loading screens for free players at first. Why? Because it's easy to do.

We will further integrate advertising into the game in optional and entertaining ways for the player.

Imagine, if you would, a special shop like Sam's Dungeon Wholesale that had a nearby billboard. Or perhaps a quest that gives you King's Coins for looking at advertising. Or perhaps a mini-game dungeon that's papered with ads but has some sweet item hidden in it.

We're giving serious thought to how we'll roll out advertising in the future. We want it to be fun for all involved!

Cool. I am glad you people are putting so much thought into this. I have just recently read an article in a magazine describing some of the more lame attempts at advertising. I am glad to see that you are trying to not make the same mistakes.

I hope I can find something worth clicking on , and supporting your game , by looking at.

I can see it now...

Non-Member #185 kills Sissiratt and located a "Pink" shield. (Pink items are special items that only Non-Mebers can equip). He equips this cool looking shield only to find that it is a bill-board for your favorite soft drink.

Or Agrock shouting business slogans on his death... "For everything else in life there's.."

It all depends on the sponsors. Nerf bats as weapons? Yes!

In game ads are easy to deal with at most times. It all just comes down to exactly what they are. One fo the ones that caught my in AO was the "Click-It or Ticket" ad. It was good to see a public service type of message mixed in with all of the normal sale type of ads.
